For some random reason that cell phone provider (Whoever it was.. Verizon, I think?) commercial came up in my head, where the construction worker is so obsessed with his phone, he doesn't realize that he stepped into a block of cement and the cement has hardened, leaving him stuck. Well, that got me wondering... what would happen if that were true? Of course, I'm not suggesting that some idiot would become so engaged in his phone he'd step into cement and not feel it hardening... but just, what if, for some odd reason, it happened. By the time he realizes or when help finally comes, won't he lose all feeling in his feet, and will they have to be amputated?
@RadAndRandom,
Concrete doesn't harden that fast. Get a grip.
@ossobuco,
But if it did, a jackhammer would leave most of the foot intact. Keeping a foot in concrete that long would be really bad for the complexion. I'm pretty sure most of the skin would be missing. We would be looking at a serious disability claim, at least if the guy were barefoot.
@roger,
Barefoot in the Park, wasn't that a movie?
@ossobuco,
Probably. They probably ran out of good titles a decade or more ago. I don't do movies on account of crumby acoustics.
@RadAndRandom,

thats a hard one
they should only ever amputate in order to save the cement
consider reposting in ethics / philosophy
@roger,
we could blast, that would save most of the torso and the head for easy identification and mounting in the DArwin Award museum.
@farmerman,
The Boston way of dealing with this is simple. We either throw you into the harbor (which is really the point anyway isn't it?), or we just keep pouring cement.
Either way is simple with little mess to clean up afterwards.
@RadAndRandom,
Doesn't cement shrink slightly when it cures?
Ouch.

he'd lose his mobile charge before the cement had hardened completely

do they amputate people's legs to get them out of casts?

Ooooh, well I guess a cast is slightly similar to cement.. but isn't cement harder to cut through than a cast?
