@Robert Gentel,
I probably agree. Way too futzy with the assembled judges.. At the same time, I used to be interested in expertise, the fine points.

Curling is one of the most popular sports at the Vancouver Games, and it's one of Canada's favorite pastimes, but the raucous crowds packing the cozy arena are raising eyebrows. Like golf, curling is a sport with an understated tradition and an etiquette that might be unfamiliar to some fans.

As usual, there will be plenty of curling on television Monday, with MSNBC, CNBC and USA airing it

All in all, I'd consider it a game, rather than a sport, as Robert suggested. Good definition.

@Ceili,
Me neither. I just don't really get into sports all that much, really.
I appreciate the determination and the energy dedicated to sports, but I do not wish to partake in them.
I'd like to keep my bones in one piece, thank you very much.

Still confused over the phyla, FM. [Just kiddin'] It's a curling rink. Same as hockey/skating rink and the kids who used to clean the ice before the advent of those fancy zambonis were rink rats.

The accumulated snow was shoveled into a slush pond that was behind a section of the boards. Then the head rink rat/caretaker would flood the ice surface with a hose, and we all had to stay off the ice til it was set.

OMG! I don't know how you can't find this exciting.
I was at the women semi's yesterday. The crowd was electric.
Today, I'm watching the women's finals. It's the 9th end. The swedes have the hammer. The king, gueen, prime minister, and premier are in the stands. Canada's leading 5-4. This is tense. I hope you're all enjoying it as much as me. wooo.... the rock is almost, just behind the guard.

by the by... the pregnant canadian is an alternate, she only played at few ends just to say she'd played.. very canadian thing to do.
The intensity is palatable. Go Canada!
