@oolongteasup,
I came through this question in a competition, and i need a "string" describing the answer. I tried the name of the shape which results when i draw it using 4 lines but that's not the answer. I'm stuck here. Please try to help.

strings and coins is a dual form of dots and boxes

( google "dots and boxes") wikipedia
i'm thinking it's not computer strings or string theory
