Ok, 2.1 doesn't have pinch/zoom but the new gallery updated in Android 2.1 has been perfectly recreated WITH pinch and zoom... Oh, btw, it is butter smooth!!!
It's both funny and kinda sad that all is former Dare owners are thinking and feeling the exact same way.
Yeah, I know... But I have to say, between DL the emulated version of 2.1 and having the new gallery AND pinch/zoom on my phone, I'm not really caring much about the update anymore.
1. Download to your computer. (above)
2. Copy gallery.apk file to your sdcard.
3. On your phone go to Settings, then Applications and enable Unknown Sources.
4. On your phone, use a file manager such as Astro to browse to the gallery.3dmt file. Tap the file and install it.
5. You will now have two Gallery applications listed in your launcher -- the second one is the new port. Tap it to launch the application.
dont need a rooted droid for those and just remember to uninstall these before you install the new 2.1 if it ever comes just to make sure there are no problems or conflicts

youll also get new wallpapers from the launcher just not the living ones
