Droid Price Speculation?

Its hard to justify purchasing a droid when the iphone is cheaper but i cant see verizon trying match prices with the iphone here. I think they will do a price hike at around 249.99 - 279.99. They will use their network infrastructure as a selling point and justification of that pricing as they always do with everything.

What do you think the droid will cost?

@Droid Motorola,
I have no idea, but I wouldn't be surprised to see $399 for the first few months or so. I just renewed my contract four weeks ago so I'll have to pay the full price.

Actually, I could imagine $399 for the phone, but something like $199 with a new contract. I hope I have overestimated the price.

@cmacv,
Welcome Aboard cmacv!

NE2 is 100 dollars off so verizon would have to price this at 299.99

HTC Imagio is 199. If they priced this the same as the droid the imagio sales will hinder big time.

@Droid Motorola,
A 16GB iPhone 3GS sells for $199. If VZ really wants to make a dent with current iPhone/ATT customers, they can't sell the untested Droid for much more. I think $250 max and probably $199. Anyone who really wants a Droid, isn't gonna get an Imagio anyway. VZ is putting all their eggs in the Droid basket. I don't think they really care about the effect on Imagio or Storm2 sales.

@norm428,
I agree with the above.

I would be surprised if it is over $249.99 with a 2 year contract and or NE2 upgrade (which I get on 10/27!). Hopefully it is $199.00 though : )

@BigTroy,
I say it will be 199 with a two year contract, with a 50 mail in Rebate.

@BucYouUp68,
Good thing I returned the BlackBerry Tour a few months back, after a week of using it. Still eligible! Since I lowered my voice plan (since I text more than anything), I will only get the $50 NE2. Fine by me. About time "the network" gets some sic phones.

Hoping you guys are right about the $200 mark. Seems more than reasonable.

@warrentotheg,
My guess is $249 with a 2-year commitment and a $50 mail-in rebate, bringing the final cost to $199.

@The Chief,
I think it has to be in the same range as the iPhone since Verizon is specifically targeting it. I'm hoping for $199!

@droiddoes,
It is pretty much confirmed that the price is $599 full retail at Best Buy, $549 full retail at VZW, $299 less $100 rebate w/two year contract less any NE2 discount you are due. This last is straight from the new droiddoes.com website.

@Droid Motorola,
I went into my local verizon this weekend and I either A) knew more about the droid than they did, or B) they were very good at playing dumb about a lot of things from specs, to price, to Eris release date. But when I talked to a sales rep about price we held a full conversation about a $299.99 price with a $100 mail in rebate. So be prepared to shell out three-hundo to get 100 back on 11/6.

That's with a 2 year contract and no NE2 deduction.

Existing Customers: 149.99 if eligible for NE2 credit w/ 2 yr renewal or 199.99 w/ new 2yr activation on voice plan with email feature, or email plan"
