Interesting article in newspaper. It talks about how some parents pay to work, pay for child care that is, to get that much needed two incomes to make ends meet. It talks about low income parents who figure out that it pays more to leave the crummy minimum wage job and collect welfare at home than to get child care. Often when they do work they deal with substandard child care, erratic work schedules, no sick days, no health care and other horrors.

This is called the "welfare trap" and it requires imaginative work by the government to fix. Nobody else is going to do it. In my country there have been various "back to work" schemes, involving things like excusing companies a certain amount of tax for every new worker they take off the dole list, tax credits for workers with families, etc.

Hell it worst then that is used to be far better for a poor woman with children not to have a man in the household even a working man as being on the public dole equal having a man earning double the minimum wage at least.

Reforms a decade or so ago were suppose to stop this however I had not look into the matter to see if it had done so or not.
