MTBE water filtration

While we have a deep well in a mostly pristine wooded area, we are 1/2 mile downstream of intermittent runoff from a regularly used private gasoline storage and pump facility. The occurence of MTBE is also intermittent but unknowable on a day to day basis. We want to put a filtration system in--any advice?

@paul clark,
MTBE solubility is such that you could get about 80% by using activated carbon contact units.
How high is the concentration of MTBE in your water? I imagine that its less than 20ppb or you would not be considering still using it for potable supply.

The problem with MTBE is that its first order breakdown product is MTBA (tert-butyl alcohol) TBA has a known carcenogenicity risk even more than MTBE. So, with too high a value , MTBE can be a real health concern.

DId you contaminate your own well or did someone elese bear responsibility?

Is there any way you can move your well to an upgradient site and then have the storage facility pay for it?
Although its feasible, Ive never seen really good results from any water treatment train for compounds with very high Henry's law coefficients. A real treatment system would involve air stripping and then a series of GAC units in a "train"
