Back to this, folks.

Today's dispatch.

So, I called Unemployment. This is, by the way, not the beginning of this bout of unemployment. This is to ask about the Federal extension.

I am told - you did not make enough for the Federal extension.

And so, erm, lemme see if I got this straight - I didn't make enough money for you to give me money, from a program I've paid into?

Yep.

Ooookay.

@jespah,
Oy, that sucks big time!
I hope your upcoming job search will be much more promising.
So you aren't getting any unemployment now?

@CalamityJane,
Actually, I've been searching for a while, and I've been on Unemployment since early February (for the last job, the contract term ran out, and no renewal).

Argh.

Gonna go commiserate with Chai.

@jespah,
I have been thinking about you each time I post on my conundrum thread thinking "what do I have to complain about, look at the tough row jes has to sow"

Just so I'm clear, beside some contract type work, you've been basically unemployed since 2010? And for quite some time without unemployment?

waiting to hear re semi-promising....

@chai2,
Yep, that's about the size of it. Unemployed or underemployed, since '10.

@jespah,
Question.

When you read job descriptions online on job sites, do you get the impression that everyone writes them as if they think their business is akin to an emergency room on a Saturday night? A Saturday night that happens to be St Patricks Day and someone has been giving out free guns along with the green beer?

Fast paced, multi-tasking, ability to prioritize, high energy, highly motivated....on and on.

As if every day when you get there until the time you leave your blood pressure is going to be sky high, and every decision made and action taken might change the direction of the free world.

I wish people would just write realistic job descriptions.
It's not like you're going to be setting up 15 international meetings over 5 time zones every day, or that the stock market is going to crash if you go to the break room to get a cup of tea.

On my conundrum thread, I just ranted about an interview on went on today for a 3 month project....it was ridiculous.

Oh....I feel another rant coming on....do you mind?

@chai2,
Feel free to rant away.

And I agree. Oy.

Actual job requirements for a listing I just saw on LinkedIn -
Quote:
Requirements:
Proven ability to document process designs, requirements and test plans
Proven analytical skills, attention to detail and quality
Strong prioritization and time management skills
Ability to work in a cross team environment and problem solve business issues
Ability to provide guidance to team members and customers in the implementation of our solution
Ability to redesign the way work is done to support client’s processes and meet goals
Experience analyzing As-Is process steps, Inputs/Outputs and performance to identify performance obstacles such as redundant steps, incomplete inputs and outputs, inefficient handoffs, poor use of available technology or opportunities for efficiency from technology
Experience with gathering information, conducting stakeholder interviews and synthesizing information for functional needs
Strong communications skills & facilitation experience
Ability to think both creatively and analytically
Excellent listening skills
Excellent communication and writing skills.

This job essentially is for someone who will be telling others what they are doing inefficiently.

I am certain that person is loved beyond all measure.

@jespah,
YOU need classes????? Oh, wait, you'll sail with it and have some kind of paper that says you know what you are doing, which could be handy.

@ossobuco,
Yeah, it's for certification.

One of my classmates works for NBC Sports. Another works for ESPN, and sent us all a video from the X-Games. It is quite the eclectic group; there are also people who just manage their company's (or their own) webpages or FB pages. I mentioned A2K, of course.

@jespah,
I am now HootSuite Certified. Hopefully, this will help in getting a job.

Class is going well; this semester will finish on May 3rd. I have two more to take before I get Social Media Certification. And then I'll figure out if I want to (e. g. have the bucks) get my Master's.

Did I mention I'm holding a 95.6 average?
