sounds kinda wacky and chemical to moi.

@Rockhead,
well, if it doesn't taste chemical-y, what would be the point?

it's kinda like banana popsicles - no way those things have a flavour at all reminiscent of banana - I call it chemical banana

every now and then (every couple of years) I crave what I call chemical corn - bagged popcorn, not cheese corn, not cheesies, it looks like popcorn but doesn't really taste like popcorn

~~~
they missed a few PC flavours in this pic, but it's sort of a hint what's possible in the world of Canadian potato chip flavours
pretty blah in comparison to some of the flavours made for the Pilipino and Japanese markets that I've seen at the T&T supermarket
@ehBeth,
see, there's the rub.
I kinda don't really much like real potato chips. (or crisps)
so to put more crap i shouldn't ought eat on 'em does little to titillate my tastebuds.
you go head...
@ehBeth,
Is Humpty Dumpty out of business? I always liked walking around the Saturday Market in Frederictown with a huge ag that said "HUMPTY DUMPTY" on the front and this cartoon of Mr Dumpty siiting on a wall (The classic reference to Mr Dumpty's chip-bag likeness was, as I was told, taken from Sir John Teniels's original drawings for Alice in WOnderland)
HERRS chips, while good, cannot hold a candle to the fine flavor and crispness achieved by UTZ's (a chip made in Hanover Pa, by Pa Dutch Elves).
Herrs has captured a market that is based solely upon sending out fleets of Ford "Caravels"like the Dutch East Indiamen, to all parts of the realms of US and Canada, all loaded with chemically enhanced potato chips that have shelf lives of several decades Ive been told
. (Mexicans have their own snack foods which we are lately xploiting to create the perfect TAco Chip with lime flavoring.)
I got nothin more to say
Theyve changed Mr Dumpty's likeness on the bag. The fools.
@farmerman,
Heres another excellent Pa Dutch Chip that should be exported to Canada. It would provide a perfect Lardy base to accept those uniquely Canadian flavors and fragrances like"Beaver" and "Clam dip".
YOU can buy these chips in huge metal cans that last forever uintil opened. Then you must eat the entire 2 pounds of hips (roughly 6 cubic yards) in one sitting. Thats a walk on the tundra for a Canadian
@djjd62,
Small Fry acquired Humpty Dumpty back in the 90's so I guess what I meant to say was, "Small Fry are the worst potato chips in the world" at least according to the Mr.
I guess I grew up too close to the border -- I prefer plain old salted (or even lightly salted) potato chips. I don't eat most of the flavoured ones. (According to a Lay's potato chip guy of my acquaintance, they just make plain chips and send them along a conveyor belt under a spray bath of chemical flavours.)
@farmerman,
Old Dutch bought Humpty Dumpty. Humpty Dumpty was pretty much Eastern Canada, while Old Dutch was found primarily in Western Canada.
Utz has a good russet potato chip as I recall.
@ehBeth,
The russet chip , as I heard it, started out as a mistake and when they were trying to toss em out, several of the employees said they liked the darker chip and almost birnt flavor. So, both Utz and Herrs now make a dark russet tater chip.
CRAB DIP chips was a complete bust, even though theres a deal tween McCormick and the chip companies that will ensure the continuation of this product for a few years. Bleeech!.
@ehBeth,
Old Dutch are goooood.
Years ago when my godmama was stationed overseas, she used to get me to ship her Old Dutch tater chips by the case for her and her buds.
Later it was sending the Old Dutch Ketchup to my american friend who came to visit and fell in love.
Old Dutch is all we got. lol. But no, they are really good chips. That and this ....little company with nice crispy thin chips.
@ehBeth,
Honestly it's getting harder and harder to keep track of who owns what. The Mr prefers ripple chips and the Old Dutch ripple chips we see in stores here are all made in the USA (?!) So he buys Herr's. Likes them equally well and they're cheaper.
(I think the All Dressed Old Dutch chips are still made here because only Canadians would be crazy enough to manufacture and consume them.)
