msolga the early 90's is when country music started to creep onto the pop charts in the US unfortunately culminating into the monstrosities that were say ... pop artists like Shania Twain and the latest hideous pop-country hybrid beast Taylor Swift!

Ah. I see.

Hey, I like The Mavericks! Smile

@msolga,
Now that you filled out the entire band width, MsOlga, you've got our attention Wink

How about something from today - 80 % of the stuff my daughter listens to,
is beyond my musical ear, but once in a while I find myself liking a song or two...
So here are some
Two from "Panic at the Disco" - I like this group in general

I also like Coldplay a lot - here is one of their songs, it pays to look through youtube to hear others of Coldplay, MsOlga.

Fall out Boys

@tsarstepan,
Just listening to Mary Chapin Carpenter in a minute. I'm obviously not going to keep up. Listening to each one, as posted. Thanks all! Very Happy

@msolga,
She's usually more melodramatic than that one time hit of hers.

Half way through boomer's post, I received a call from my friend, C, to come over & have lunch. (I'm also interested to see if she survived the family Christmas invasion, poor thing.) So I'll be off now. I'm looking forward to catching up with the rest which has been posted. (Looks interesting, Jane!) when I get home, later. In the meantime, feel free to post away! This is fun. Very Happy

some things you might like

good album for beginners - Transatlanticism

side project for Death Cab For Cutie Singer/Songwriter Ben Gibbard
only one album and some ep's - Give Up

good albums for beginners - The Soft Bulletin & Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots

when they're good they're really good, but they're always weird

good albums for beginners - Castaways and Cutouts & Her Majesty The Decemberists

the first three albums are classics (IMHO) - Tigermilk, If You're Feeling Sinister & The Boy With The Arab Strap

good album for beginners - Sumday

@msolga,
Very quickly <puff, puff, pant, pant>

I'm also very keen to know about what was happening musically in the UK, other places at this time. Now, even.

<a nudge & a wink at UK A2Kers & others >

OK, gotta run now. Back later.

Quick last word, before I run ...

Could I ask for a rough date for the music you select? Kind of puts things into a slightly clearer context.

Thanks!

I LOVE pop music!

I'm thinking all of these songs have been released since 2000.

One of my fave pop songs! The Recounteurs:

One of the greatest pop songs ever!

And even Wilco gets poppy:

To get a little quieter, continuing with Wilco... one of my all time favorite songs....

These are two or the singers whose CDs I will buy because almost every song will be great:

Dido (1999):

Aimee Mann (1999):
