March 8, 2009 - Illinois pastor Fred Winters is shot and killed at the podium during his morning sermon. The first bullet goes through his bible. A bullet then strikes his chest, killing him. The congregation of FBC Maryville is shocked and horrified. A statement posted on the First Baptist Church's Web site said, "Please pray for Dr. Winter's family, our two brave members who were injured when they stopped the assailant, for the assailant himself and his family, and for our church members as they deal with this tragic loss. ... To those who believe in the power of prayer, we covet your prayers right now." The family turns to the very God who allowed this brutal assassination...source: http://a.abcnews.com/US/story?id=7033937&page=1

Is this the same God that allowed his son to be nailed to a cross and allowed to die. This pastor dude was peanuts in the loop.

@Jason Proudmoore,
I don't understand.

A nutcake offed a preacher. The congregation -- which believes in that sort of thing -- asks for prayers for everybody and their kinfolk. So far, I'm following the story.

Where does God come into all this?

You have a particular animus towards religion, Jason. We're all aware of that. But what the hell point are you trying to make this time?

@tsarstepan,
I agree with you and Merry Andrew on this. The point seems to be conspicuous by it's absence.

Wasn't there some pastor in the backwoods advocating the wearing of guns to church to protest the possible introduction of gun control laws?

One of those "it seemed like a good idea at the time" things.

@roger,
You probably haven't read the same Bible as I...try this one : Ephesians 1:11 (NKJV)...

You seem like you haven't even heard of the argument against your belief.

Since you seem to be a student of the bible, as evidenced by your listing of one verse from said writings, perhaps you could enlighten us as to it's meaning.

You may also want to read the verses before and after to help with your perspective.

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ,

4 just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love,

5 having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will,

6 to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved.

7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace

8 which He made to abound toward us in all wisdom and prudence,

9 having made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure which He purposed in Himself,

10 that in the dispensation of the fullness of the times He might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven and which are on earth"in Him.

11 In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will,

12 that we who first trusted in Christ should be to the praise of His glory.

13 In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise,

14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.

@Jason Proudmoore,
Now there's a PERMISSION form before you can slaughter people?

Somebody's gonna have a LOT of emails to send out to the slaughterers of the world.

Or smoke signals.

Or SOMETHING.

Glad I found out before I did any slaughtering!
