Which word can go before

'ash' 'blue' 'cork' 'devil' 'everlasting' 'marrow' 'sickness' and 'soap'

to produce two word phrases, some of which may be hyphenated?

There are words that fit some of them but not all of them. Cannot think of a word that goes before 'everlasting' which seems to be the tricky one.

@sophocles,
Red cork is a type of ... cork! Red cork oak trees grow in various parts of the world. I have seen them in Sardinia.

@contrex,
Forgot to put that the more common name for the mineral "Mountain Marrow" is Lithomarge. It is a smooth, closely packed variety of kaolin.

@spendius,
I daresay. The questioner wants one word, not several different ones, I believe. Otherwise the puzzle would have many hundreds or thousands of possible solutions, which would make it pointless.

It doesn't say 'words', you will note.

@contrex,
I wasn't concentrating contrex. I'm still a bit giddy from winning the A2K "Pick-Um" football game.

How about "the".
