@msolga,
Linda Ronstadt's version is pretty good, too.
What an exquisite song!

@msolga,
Maybe I'm feeling a bit wistful tonight?
Rather melancholy choice of music.
Could be winter approaching, or something ..?
Sad

Just doing a bit of musical investigation here ....
When I initially heard Bad Things (on the opening credits of True Blood) I thought the singer was Chris Isaacs.
But no it isn't. It's someone called Jace Everett, who I've never heard of before.

But Bad Things reminded me so much of Chris Isaac's Baby Did A Bad Bad Thing, too.
No wonder I got the two mixed up.
Anyway, here they both are:

Trying (with no success) to find some decent video footage of one of my very favourite, played to death, LPs of the mid to late 1970s.
(LPs are what we used to buy & play music before the days of CDs, for those of you too young to know. Old technology. Wink )
This one was simply called Willis Alan Ramsey, the name of the singer/songwriter.
Unfortunately, no great visuals here, just the album cover, but the music was great! :

@msolga,
Years later, in 2008.
The closest I could find to a half-decent video of him performing.
Quite a bit of background noise, which is a real shame.
But never mind.
It's a beautiful love song.
Straight from the heart.

@msolga,
That was an unplugged version.
This one's closer to the original.
Plugged?
Love REM! Smile

I watched Donnie Darko again last week. Once again I was struck by how perfectly this song suited the mood of the film:

@msolga,
Here's the original version from Tears For Fears in 1982
(Wish I could have found a better quality video of them performing it.)

I've loved Nick Cave's the Ship Song since the first time I heard it.
It's one of those songs that give you goose bumps ... just wonderful!

Just now, reading on an Oz online news site, I discovered that there'd recently been a Sydney Opera House "Ship Song Project" ... so I took a look ...
Any number of local performers (including Paul Kelly & Neil Finn, etc, etc), plus strings, ballerinas, acrobats, an orchestra & heave knows what else! Surprised

I honestly don't know what to make of it, to tell the truth. Confused
But anyway, have a look for yourself if you're interested.

But first, the Nick Cave version:

Randy Newman is in town.
A couple of days ago I heard a radio interview with him with Jon Faine (local ABC radio 744) which was an absolute joy to listen to. (I was hoping to find a podcast to post here, but no go yet.)

Jon, who is usually unflappable (especially in regard to things political) was almost beside himself with excitement in the situation. He is obviously a huge fan.
I can understand how he felt. I was a HUGE Randy Newman fan in the 1970s+.
But sort of lost track of his music after Good Old Boys.

Anyway, Randy came across in this interview as sane, wryly humorous, talented & not remotely "up himself" musician. It was all about the music. He never pretended or wanted to be a "star".

Here's what Randy Newman looks like now.

I wish I could afford to attend one of his two concerts in Melbourne, but sadly I can't.

Never mind. The next best thing is to listen to some of his music which I loved.
Here's one song that was a favourite, ages ago. Very funny.:
