We just bought a new house here in San Antonio, TX and we need a water softener. Some of the systems discussed here are too expensive for my budget. I was looking at a Kenmore Elite 420 System from Sears vs a Whirlpool 48,000 grain capacity from Lowes. Do I have any other options besides this 2 that costs less than $1000? Plus I'm also looking at a Kenmore Elite Central Water Whole Home Filtration also from Sears. Can you please help me?

@RJA15,
Look on line for Fleck 5600(how many people live in the house)....from installing to service for over 25yrs dependability and price on repairing system is very affordable
I use to live in San Antonio and Fleck units work very well there but all so recommend buying Reverse Osmosis Drinking System to go underneath the sink to remove T.D.S.( Total Dissolve Solids) from the water but all depends what you want to remove from the water
take care
