Old Rainsoft Silver Series, Help!!!!

I need help deciding on whether to buy this 7 year old Rainsoft system. He is selling it for cheap. to only thing that worries me is that he unplugged it about 3 years ago. Can this damage the system? He never unhooked it from his water though. Please help.
