Oh! I was coming here to cry about being stuck in the freakazoid alternative universe of freaking Parse Error.... but all is improved.

Nah, what happened was that I altered the layout on the fly (editing several templates at once) and then undid the changes. One of the templates didn;t update in the template cache and was causing an error. So I just deleted it and the templating engine generated a new template with the correct number of table cells etc.
