Trouble getting on to A2K on 1 computer

Reply Fri 17 Jul, 2009 11:56 pm
I suspect this is in the PC, rather than A2k, but I can't make sense of it.

No other forums are affected, but my work computer does odd things to A2K.

"My Posts" isn't displayed, but the other words in that top line are.

The layout of pages is significantly changed (page selection, separation of posts, very different) and the place where I need to click in order to reply is not displayed. Sometimes I see people's icons, sometimes not.

I'm sending this from home which is unaffected.

Anybody got any bright ideas?

@spikepipsqueak,
Very strange, spike!

I'm sorry, I have no idea of why this might be happening with your work computer, nor how you might go about fixing it.

Interesting that your home computer hasn't been affected.

Good luck. I hope someone who can help comes along! Smile

@spikepipsqueak,
sometimes A2k will load very very slowly on my wireless unit but wont be similarly affected on the non wireless . I assume that its a problem with my router .

I am also getting lots of malware showing up lately and Im having my IT guy try to locate the sources because I dont make any limitations on usage of company computers and I feel that some game centers and chat rooms are spreading these toxic sites. We are one step ahead but I worry that we may be just loading up fpr a good strong attack that wont be fixable without going down for a good period.

Okay, usual questions: PC or mac? What browser, e. g. IE, Opera, Firefox, etc.? Which version of said browser?

@jespah,

PC, IE. Very old, possibly '98. Can't check, I'm at home.

But nothing had changed when this happened, I hadn't installed any new software, added any hardware, etc. Did anything change at your end around the middle of last week?

I got rid of all my cookies when it happened, wondering if some buffer somewhere is too full and won't let A2k do what it normally does. Not offay enough to know what else to empty.

Farmerman, are you implying virus?

Thanks for all responses, still open to suggestions.

@spikepipsqueak,
I don't believe we changed anything. Dunno what you mean by "offay".

@jespah,
I'm not spike, jespah, but it means not having much knowledge of a particular subject. (or something pretty close to that!)

As in: "I'm not very offay with computer technology."

(I'm not sure what the correct spelling is, though.)

@msolga,
No, although something will fall into place eventually.

I'm prepared to accept that I will be able to read at work and post at home.

It's just weird because nothing else seems to have been affected.

Aren't computers fun?

Nothing changed on this end that I know of. One thing I would try is to clear the browser cache, maybe it cached a blank css file. That would result in many images being out of place and a lot of color missing.

Here are instructions on how to do that with IE6, but if you are really running Windows 98 you may have an even older browser installed, if you can figure out what version it is I can give you more precise steps for your version:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/ie6/using/howto/customizing/clearcache.mspx#ENB

If that doesn't do the trick please post a screenshot of what it looks like so I can get a better idea of what is going on.
