It used to really irritate me - a similar type of irritation to Benny Hill-induced irritation. But that was the script & a particular approach to Brit comedy at the time. But I did think the character Mrs Slocombe (sp?) was very convincing. I'll give Molly credit for being a fine actor.

You're assuming she was acting at all. I don't remember her getting any BAFTA nominations.

Its aug 18,2009 and i just heard the sad news. I was shocked and sad to hear of her passing. I have been watching Are You Being Served for more then 15 years and she still makes me laugh as if it were my first time watching. I will miss her and i hope her family will get through this with the help of all her fans. R.I.P. Mrs Slocombe.

Two years ago the BBC tried updating some of its old sitcoms.

Dad's Army had a couple of lost episodes that were recast with modern actors, and Porridge was reimagined with Fletcher's grandson in prison.

Both went down very well , the same cannot be said of Are You Being Served it was slammed. Jason Watkins performance as Mr Humphries was singled out as being homophbic and stereotypical.

That **** may have gone down in the 70s, but not any more.
