Have you ever seen kids pick up an armadillo that has rolled itself into a ball
and toss it back and forth? I saw this in Louisiana when I was a high school
teacher there. None of my family back in Boston believed me when I told
them about it.

@edgarblythe,
I think DP was poking fun at Rockhead sister.

Armadillos are fraidy-cats.

@DrewDad,
I should have considered the source. Of course, you would know, DrewDad.

@edgarblythe,
I've seen people have competitions to see who could actually get close enough to an armadillo to touch it. The creatures can apparently feel you coming from the vibrations in the ground.

@DrewDad,
The only armadillos we see here are in the form of road kill. But, not so many years back, a brother and I were just on the other side of Austin, when I spied one by the side of the road. I stopped the pick up and came up close behind the critter. It was totally unaware of me and I could have stood there as long as I wanted. Finally, having observed it as long as I wanted to, I went back to the truck and drove on. It remained so intent on what it was doing, it never seemed to notice me at all.

Even a woman thinks this is funny. Armadillos do NOT charge! No fear required, honest; please reassure her.

My solution has been simple: Dogs. We have 3; they chase the Armadillos out of the yard.

This is a funny thread..... I just find it very weird to even consider the possibility of having wandering armadillos in my backyard. The most I can foresee is the neighbors cat!

Of course Armadillos don't charge - just where would they keep a credit or store card?

On the other and - where do they keep their cash? Or cache?

They eat insects. My brother once told me they love sow bugs. Which is why you have to be extra careful dressing one out. Don't want to get sow bug on the meat. He told me they are poisonous. That's a factoid I never bothered to verify.

You know, if it weren't for A2K, I might never have learned this.

As I recall, armadillo meat is easy to cook to tenderness and is not a gamy taste.

@edgarblythe,
Lots of recipes out there.

I looked: "...about 236,000 for armadillo meat recipes (About this page) - 0.27 sec"
