Records, Writings Reveal Sotomayor's Background, Shape Confirmation Debate

Documents show Supreme Court nominee owes more than $400,000, may be living paycheck to paycheck

From the article:
Quote:
The documents described Sotomayor's finances, which paint a portrait of a New Yorker in an expensive neighborhood who may be living largely paycheck to paycheck. She has $1.16 million in assets, but $418,350 in debts, including her mortgage, credit card bills and a big dentist bill. Previous financial disclosure reports showed her with an annual income of about $200,000.

Including one's mortgage in with one's debts would make practically anyone look like their on the brink of financial disaster. As it is, she has assets of over $1 million and an annual income of about $200k. I seriously doubt that she's living paycheck-to-paycheck. Indeed, assuming that most of that $418k in debt is the mortgage (unless she had one helluva dentist bill), the fact that her mortgage is only twice her annual income is pretty good -- probably better than most American homeowners.

She's definitely Obama's kind of woman... she spends far more than she brings in
and has no idea how she's going to pat off the debt without using a ton of OPM.

Jag from Chicago copies well but he is a fraud when it comes to his so called advice. Jag from Chicago claims to be a lawyer but he has given unbelievably erroneous advice to people that asked for it on these threads.

Jag from Chicago said that it does not matter to a lawyer's success if he or she goes to a Law School which is of a lower rank( check out US News and World Report for Rankings).

He is egregiously mistaken. (I think he said that because he is a pitiful failure if he is a lawyer-- probably an ambulance chaser or a ticket fixer)./

I don't think that the fraud realizes that the great law firms( Sidley and Austin in Chicago--Wachtell in New York--Latham in Los Angeles, DO NOT HIRE LAWYERS from the Third Tier Toilet firms that Jag from Chicago mentioned in his abortive advice column unless those people were number one or two in the class of those firms.

The good firms hire largely from the top ten or fifteen law schools-Harvard, Yale, Chicago, etc.

To put it bluntly, Joe the Jag is full of **** with his phony advice on law schools. That means, of course, that he rarely knows what he is talking about.

@joefromchicago,
Jag from Chicago wrote about Sotomayor's financial status,but he does not mention her philosophy.

Today, Lino Graglia, professor of law at the University of Texas, wrote a letter to the Wall Street Journal where he said:

"She(Sotomayor) also noted "".........no Hispanics,male or female sit onthe Fourth, Sixth, Seventh, Eighth, District of Columbia or Federal Circuits. Sort of shocking, isn't it. This is the year 2002. We have a long way to go"

Graglia continued:

It is also shocking that there are no Italians, Swedes,Greeks or Poles on several of those courts, or is it only a problem with regard to Hispanics?

*******************************************************************

Jag from Chicago is probably not aware that Obama will NOT appoint any Italians, Swedes, Greeks or Poles. Obama, who has preached against racism( not reverse racism) all his life will doubtlessly appoint sterling characters like his friends in Chicago--the convicted Rezko--the now retired Legislative leader--Emil Jones--- the impotent Stroger--or perhaps he will even pardon his old friend--Blagojevich--the impeached Governor--and give him a shot.

I don't think he can appoint his other friend--the Junior Senator from Illinois-Burris. Even Obama could not get him past his perjury rap.

@H2O MAN,
Most of what she owes is in the form of a mortage on her home. She can easily handle her debt service.

Most people pretty much live paycheck to paycheck.

She could probably greatly increase her income by giving more speeches and by writing more.

Foxnews: Sotomayor living paycheck to paycheck

Quote:
Foxnews.com
WASHINGTON -- Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor has sent a Senate panel a massive portfolio of personal details and writings that lawmakers will pore over with a fine-tooth comb to shape the debate on her confirmation.

The five boxes of files delivered to Capitol Hill gave senators a fuller picture of Sotomayor's background and record, as well as of how President Obama came to nominate his first Supreme Court choice. They came in response to a questionnaire the Senate Judiciary Committee sends federal court nominees.

The White House contacted Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor about serving on the high court four days before Justice David Souter announced that he would retire, according to the documents.

Sotomayor told the committee that no one ever asked her position during the selection process about any issue that could come before the Supreme Court. There's little doubt that Sotomayor, Obama's first high court nominee, will be confirmed by the Democrat-controlled Senate. But Republicans are balking at Democratic efforts to ensure a speedy set of hearings and summertime vote for the appeals court judge, whose 17 years on the bench they say warrants a longer debate.

Sotomayor returned to Capitol Hill on Thursday for a third day of one-on-one visits with senators. By week's end, she will have met with more than one-quarter of the Senate, and all but a few members of the Judiciary Committee.

If confirmed, Sotomayor, 54, would be the first Hispanic and the third woman to serve on the court.

If you google the phrase "Sotomayor living paycheck to paycheck" you will come up with lots of links to right wing blogs with that sentence in an article with a link to fox news. However, Fox News must of scrubbed that phrase because now it is not to be found when you click on the link in the article. I guess they came to the same conclusion Joe from Chicago did.

I think she is a little too biased in seeming to want more women Latinos to be judges than white men. There is nothing wrong with wishing there were more women and Latinos in the judicial field but to wish a dominance, I think crosses some kind of line. Unless I misunderstand what she means by certain remarks she has repeated over the years, but that is how it seems to me.

@revel,
You say that Sonia wished for a dominance of Latinas on the bench. Do you have a link backing this up? She was merely saying that a Latina may render better decisions due to her background.
