Did SCOTUS usurp their authority in 1935?

In 1935 the supreme court killed Roosevelt's National Recovery Act (NRA) with nothing in the Constitution to back them up. The growing economy tanked died and we were back in the depression. Did SCOTUS usurp an authority they didn't have, did they make a mockery of the three pillars of power

Whether the supreme court usurped power or not is pretty much a moot question. The court's substantive due process decisions, such as Schechter Poultry, have been effectively overruled by subsequent decisions. Is there some specific point you wanted to make?
