Interested, and looking to branch out in the music I listen to.

Yes, I know...five is crazy...

One is fine if you don't have five.

1. Mass in B minor - Bach (as close to perfection as a piece of music can get).
2. America the Beautiful - Ray Charles (the best patriotic song ever sang)
3. Alice's Restaurant - Arlo Guthrie (a darn good story and a family Thanksgiving tradition)
4. El Rey - Vicente Fernandez (the song I want played at my funeral)
5. Foreplay/Long time - Boston (driving rock with sentimental value)

@dlowan,
Have you listened to the submissions to Robert's "An a2k experiment: What is our favorite song?" thread?

@ossobuco,
So, be put off.

Don't post already.

I don't really give much of a damn about the five...as I said above already, dammit...but I hoped it would get people to concentrate a bit.

The why? Hell yes. If people post a heap of stuff I don't know, which I kind of hope they do, but what will be will be, it helps me, given wildly differing tastes, to have SOME idea of whether I might enjoy it too.

Also, I want to know why, as it happens. I find it interesting.

I have no idea why you choose to be put off, but if you are, as I said, don't bother with the thread.

@dlowan,
I was just teasing, miss bunny.

I am trying to narrow to five, as I don't much do favorites, and some of it is rather dark and heavy...

@DrewDad,
If you notrice, Roberts thread had quickly become a random compilation of all different kinds of things that were already gone over (except without the youtube product) several times.

I, like Rock head) cant come up with a 5 favorites. My taste in music is more like , I can give you the five peices I listened to TODAY, but that is subject to extreme change motivation on another given day.

Today I listened to (Not sure of all the titles since Im in another room)

Ray Charles "Fathead Album"
Quincy Jones "covers "
The Chieftans "Boil the breakfast slowly"
Gorecki "Symphony 3"
E street band (In honor of SPringsteen in town this weekend)
PAul SImons musical "The Umbrella man murders

Tomorrow may be all blugrass or all Bach, I never have a plan or a favorite. Too much good music. I could probably do a leat favorite music in several catagories.
eg I love good classic country music. I HATE all this sound alike crap being pooped out by these "Big HAt" country singers.
I love the words of Brad Paisley songs but his music SOUNDS ALL THE SAME, ever notice how all his notes and timings are of only 3 unique forms?

Gimme Willey or Johny Cash or Allison Kraus, and Ill listen. Give me Bach, but not Satie. I find Wagnerian operas UNLISTENABLE.

PAssions are best expressed when we DONT enjoy something.

Its like painting, I can muse all day in a good collection of art ( as eclectic as you can make it) BUT , I can be brought to nausea by Pre RAphealites, many of the Acadmie painters of 19th century France , and works of the FAuve.

Sorry but I hadda explain my train of thought why I dont have a "favorite 5" unless you limit it for "This week" or "Today".That way, next week, I could let you know what got my fancy at that later time. SOrt of like your "WHAT BOOK HAVE YOU JUST READ?"

@farmerman,
PS , dont panic osso, try to think of what you really liked this week. We are far too easily distracted to be stuck with a favorite few pieces of music.

I just thought of one. WHenever we would leave on an extended sea trip (on our boat, not a cruise), We would stick in Chet ATkins "Sails". Its a CD that best opens up the experience of leaving dock and getting underway.

NEVER PLAY CArmina Burana when a storm is a brewing

@dlowan,
I seem not to be different from others, but get a special shut up and go away slam. Nice. Not sure why my post was all that much of a trigger, dlowan. Could you clarify?
