talking to my cousin tonight on the phone, her husband became a sudden paraplegic some years ago, any way she asked me how I was recovering from my surgery and I responded that that i'm freakin elated when I was able to go pee by myself and she responded about how people said "man, it will be so neat when Hector (her husband) can walk again" and she would respond "I'll just be delighted when he can pee by himself".

Yeah. I didn't have a single, good, unassisted piss the whole time I was in the hospital, but got lots of good ojt in the subject of self catheterization. Got home and never need the knowledge again, to my everlasting joy.
