I am planning to take the family to Colorado next year for our first time, where is the best place to start for beginers?

I'd suggest Eldora. Mighty fine for beginners.

actually I would suggest Loveland Basin, reasonably close to Denver (about 80 miles) was the planned location for the winter olympics in the 70's.
