I CRASHED SINGING WILLIE NELSON
Willie Nelson's "You were always on my mind" is the song that got to me. I was singing this to a friend, got to the second verse, and out of nowhere broke down into tears. Two weeks later I was singing the song to another friend and they broke down into tears!!! I have not attempted to sing the song again!

Maybe I didn't love you
Quite as often as I could have
And maybe I didn't treat you
Quite as good as I should have

If I made you feel second best
Girl I'm sorry I was blind
You were always on my mind
You were always on my mind

And maybe I didn't hold you
All those lonely.. lonely times
And I guess I never told you
I'm so happy that you're mine

Little things I should have said and done
I just never took the time
You were always on my mind
You were always on my mind

Tell me..
Tell me that your sweet love hasn't died
Give me..
Give me one more chance to keep you satisfied
I'll keep you satisfied

Little things I should have said and done
I just never took the time
You were always on my mind
You were always on my mind
You were always on my mind..

Ever since my sister was murdered almost three years ago, I can never hear this song without busting into tears....

Diamond Rio "One More Day"

Last night I had a crazy dream
A wish was granted just for me,
It could be for anything
I didn't ask for money
Or a mansion in malibu
I simply wished, for one more day with you

One more day
One more time
One more sunset, maybe I'd be satisfied
But then again
I know what it would do
Leave me wishing still, for one more day with you

First thing I'd do, is pray for time to crawl
Then I'd unplug the telephone
And keep the tv off
I'd hold you every second
Say a million I love you's
That's what I'd do. With one more day with you

One more day
One more time
One more sunset, maybe I'd be satisfied
But then again
I know what it would do
Leave me wishing still, for one more day with you

Leave me wishing still for one more day
Leave me wishing still for one more day

for real. another great band. a sort of anglo folkie supergroup! ya got me goin' pan! just dropped liege and lief into the ol' mac for a dose of "tam lin". the groove on that tune is full on monster. totally foxy.

and richard thompson's lead stuff is still mystifying(sic?).

saw him live once doing a solo thing at an acoustic guitar store (with a performance room!) out here called mccabes back in the early '80s. the voice was good, but the guy made his acoustic talk. pretty rare.

okay. now that i've outed myself as an old fart, how about bert jansch?

no way !!! i had heard a lot about the band and both bert and john, mostly through jimmy page interviews. just couldn't get the stuff where i lived. as soon as i got here, i grabbed as much of the stuff as i could. "basket of light" is a real gem. pagey's "white summer" and "black mountainside" don't seem so original after hearing "black waterside", do they? Shocked

those guys, along with a few others were "finger picking acoustic 101", weren't they?

Jimmy Page , to his credit, learned a lot from Bert and John.

and i swiped, er.. , learned a lot from page's records, which is why when i finally heard bert and john, their stuff made absolute sense. page did add a little to it though, with the middle eastern and indian influences.

pagey's real exciting stuff for me was "little games" and "the anderson theater" records with the yardbirds, and then the first four zep lp's. things started to get kind of sloppy and uneven after that to me. but, when it was good it was very, very good.

I agree...and here's a tidbit you'll enjoy.
Page was a busy session guitarist when he sat in with Van Morrison and THEM.
See if you can find a copy of "Baby Please Don't Go" by Them. Some of the simplest, starkest...most powerful guitar I have ever heard.

yeah ! you do know the pageology ! i used to have a tape of a boot album with a bunch of his session stuff on it. not sure where it is, now. but it was way fun.

i'm still up in the air about "hurdy gurdy man", though. some say page, some say beck. ??? but at the time, they were playing together a lot, so i'd think there'd be a lot of mutual influencing...

whaddya think?

Hold On - Sarah McLaughlin

This song always makes me want to cry...

Hold on
Hold on to yourself
For this is gonna hurt like hell
Hold on
Hold on to yourself
You know that only time will tell.
What is it in me that refuses to believe
This isn't easier than the real thing.
My love,
You know that you're my best friend.
You know I'd do anything for you.
My love,
Let nothing come between us.
My love for you is strong and true.

Am I in heaven here or am i...
At the crossroads I am standing.
So now you're sleeping peaceful.
I lie awake and pray,
That you'll be strong tomorrow and we'll
See another day and we will praise it.
And love the light that brings a smile
Across your face.

Oh God if you're out there won't you hear me?
I know that we've never talked before.
Oh God the man I love is leaving.
Won't you take him when he comes to your door?

Am I in heaven here or am I in hell
At the crossroads I am standing.
So now you're sleeping peaceful.
I lie awake and pray
That you'll be strong tomorrow and we'll
See another day and we will praise it.
And love the light that brings a smile
Across your face...

Hold on
Hold on to yourself
For this is gonna hurt like hell.

STRANGE FRUIT

Southern trees bear strange fruit
Blood on the leaves
Blood at the root
Black bodies swinging in the southern breeze
Strange fruit hanging from the poplar trees
Pastoral scene of the gallant south
The bulging eyes and the twisted mouth
The scent of magnolia sweet and fresh
Then the sudden smell of burning flesh
Here is a fruit for the crows to pluck
for the rain to gather
for the wind to suck
for the sun to rot
for the tree to drop
Here is a strange and bitter crop

Composed by Abel Meeropol (aka Lewis Allan)
Originally sung by: Billie Holiday
