Danny Boy

Oh Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling
From glen to glen, and down the mountain side
The summer's gone, and all the flowers are dying
'Tis you, 'tis you must go and I must bide.

But come ye back when summer's in the meadow
Or when the valley's hushed and white with snow
'Tis I'll be here in sunshine or in shadow
Oh Danny boy, oh Danny boy, I love you so.

And if you come, when all the flowers are dying
And I am dead, as dead I well may be
You'll come and find the place where I am lying
And kneel and say an "Ave" there for me.

And I shall hear, tho' soft you tread above me
And all my dreams will warm and sweeter be
If you will bend and tell me that you love me
I'll sleep in peace until you come to me.

Oh, boy. You just gave a good reason for her not to buy an electronic keyboard, lest she lose her ability to play a real piano.

Panzade, when did you buy this keyboard? Reason I am asking is that in the last few years, there has been some movement toward making the electronic instrument more pianolike in it's behavior. As little as seven or eight years ago, these features were lacking.

Many musicians play both-electronic in a band, acoustic in the home-so I imagine practicing on one does not ruin the ability to play the other, necessarily. I mean, I don't know of too many classical musicians practicing for their Carnegie Hall recital on an electronic keyboard, but you get the idea.

Finally, I can't speak for Australia, but here in America second hand pianos are available for not too much money. I mean like under a hundred dollars. Trnsportation is indeed a problem. But here in America, you can get a rent-a-truck for less than $50 a day. After that, all Fortune would really need is some able bodied men happy to help out a lady, especially if ample amounts of beer are available.

I would check around the neighborhood and in the newspaper. Very often, pianos are available at yard sales and especially estate sales, (where the deceased's children sell the possessions prior to taking over the house). Uprights come in different sizes, and a small one might lack deep sonorous bass but still produces a quite reasonable sound, within limits.

I play a Yamaha keyboard in a band every weekend. A weighted action keyboard starts at around $1200 and I don't miss it that much. Suppose I'll never own an upright ever again.

One Sweet Day-Boyz to Men/Mirah Carey

Sorry I never told you
All I wanted to say
And now it's too late to hold you
'Cause you've flown away
So far away

Never had I imagined
Living without your smile
Feeling and knowing you hear me
It keeps me alive
Alive

And I know you're shining down on me from heaven
Like so many friends we've lost along the way
And I know eventually we'll be together
Together
One sweet day
Eventually I'll see you in heaven

Darling, I never showed you
Assumed you'd always be there
I took your presence for granted
But I always cared
And I miss the love we shared

And I know you're shining down on me from heaven
Like so many friends we've lost along the way
And I know eventually we'll be together
One sweet day
Eventually I'll see you in heaven
Although the sun will never shine the same
I'll always look to a brighter day
Lord I know when I lay me down to sleep
You will always listen as I pray

And I know you're shining down on me from heaven
Like so many friends we've lost along the way
And I know eventually we'll be together
One sweet day

Hello to everyone,
Desperado by The Eagles always brings me to tears, I'm not sure if it's just because I listen to it when I'm sad, but even when I'm happy it makes me cry!

Desperado by The Eagles

Desperado, why don't you come to your senses?
You've been out riding fences for so long now
Ah, you're a hard one
But I know that you've got your reasons
These things that are pleasin' you can hurt you somehow
Don't you draw the Queen of Diamonds, boy
She'll beat you if she's able
You know the Queen of Hearts is always your best bet
Now it seems to me some fine things have been laid upon your table
But you only want the one that you can't get
Desperado, ah, you ain't gettin' no younger
Your pain and your hunger, they're drivin' you home
Freedom, ah, freedom, that's just some people talkin'
You're a prisoner walkin' through this world all alone
Don't your feet get cold in the wintertime
The sky won't snow and the sun won't shine
It's hard to tell the night-time from the day
You're losin' all your highs and lows
Ain't it funny how the feelin' goes away?
Desperado, why don't you come to your senses
Come down from your fences and open the gate
It may be rainin' but there's a rainbow above you
You better let somebody love you...
You better let somebody love you before it's too late

And of course, Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls makes me cry too!
Those lyrics:
And I'd give up forever to touch you
'Cause I know that you feel me somehow
You're the closest to heaven that I'll ever be
And I don't want to go home right now

And all I can taste is this moment
And all I can breathe is your life
and sooner or later it's over
I just don't want to miss you tonight

And I don't want the world to see me
'Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

And you can't fight the tears that ain't coming
Or the moment of truth in your lies
When everything feels like the movies
Yeah, you bleed just to know you're alive

And I don't want the world to see me
'Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

And I don't want the world to see me
'Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

And I don't want the world to see me
'Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

I just want you to know who I am
I just want you to know who I am
I just want you to know who I am
I just want you to know who I am

Crying or Very sad They are the two songs that make me cry,
cheerio all,

I swear, (something Grandma and Grandpa said I was never to do, but I swear to this), The early 70's were the absolute worst for weepy songs. Either that or it was my early teen hormones.

Remember Honey? Wildfire? Sunshine? Taxi and all of the Gordon Lightfoot, Jim Croce, ah man, what was that other guys name? It just left me... Um,

Anyway, even Donny Osmond did a rendition of So Lonesome I could Cry that made me weepy.

Again, I guess it coulda been the hormones, but those songs of the 70's were depressing!

Sad songs don't get me too often, but I always get weepy when I heard "I'm already there" by Lonestar and "A love without end" by George Strait... Something about Country Music

"Dust in the wind" can get me if I am in a real emotional mood and not thinking about Old School

But alas I did think of sad songs.

"Something I Could Never Have" Nine Inch Nails
"Losing my Religion" REM however the Tori Amos Cover impacts me just a bit more

It was six in the morning
When I made the county line
There's someone I got to talk to
I can't get it off my mind

He's just a kid
And he's in a pretty rough spot
Two dimes to make a phone call
That's about all I've got

How's my boy today?
I know it's been three weeks
But you know how far I've got to go
To make those loose ends meet

How's your mama now
With her new live-in friend
Oh how I hate the wounds
That never seem to mend

Chorus
And he says I don't call him daddy
but he takes care of things
When you pick me up on Friday
Are you gonna bring me anything?
Oh don't worry dad ya know
It don't matter what we do
I don't call him daddy
He could never be like you
Never be like you

God bless their little hearts
They're the ones who really pay
When mom and dad can't get along
And go their seperate ways
In a way I'm glad there's someone
There to fill the empty place
Tears of understanding
Streak down a dirty face

Chorus

He is quite a little man
Growing up as fast as he can
And I don't get to see him
Half as much as I had planned
There's so much I need to tell him
So precious little time
A little rain on the window
And a little wave goodbye

Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

Seven weeks have passed now since she left me
She shows her face to ask me how I am
She says the kids are fine and that they miss me
Maybe I could come and baby sit sometime
She says "Are you O.K.? I was worried about you
Can you forgive me? I hope that you'll be happy."
I'm so happy that I can't stop crying
I'm so happy I'm laughing through my tears

I saw a friend of mine
He said "I was worried about you
I heard she had another man,
I wondered how you felt about it?"
I'm so happy that I can't stop crying
I'm so happy I'm laughing though my tears
Saw my lawyer, Mr Good News
He got me joint custody and legal separation
I'm so happy that I can't stop crying
I'm laughing through my tears
I'm laughing through my tears

I took a walk alone last night
I looked up at the stars
To try and find an answer in my life
I chose a star for me
I chose a star for him
I chose two stars for my kids and one star for my wife
Something made me smile
Something seemed to ease the pain
Something about the universe and how it's all connected

The park is full of Sunday fathers and melted ice cream
We try to do the best within the given time
A kid should be with his mother
Everybody knows that
What can a father do but baby-sit sometimes?
I saw that friend of mine, he said,
"You look different somehow"
I said, "Everybody's got to leave the darkness sometime"
I'm so happy that I can't stop crying
I'm laughing through my tears
I'm laughing through my tears
I'm so happy that I can't stop crying
I'm laughing through my tears
I'm laughing through my tears

I got to keep moving, I got to keep moving
Blues falling down like hail, blues falling down like hail
Mmm, blues falling down like hail, blues falling down like hail
And the day keeps on remindin' me, there's a hellhound on my trail
Hellhound on my trail, hellhound on my trail

If today was Christmas eve, if today was Christmas eve
And tomorrow was Christmas day
If today was Christmas eve and tomorrow was Christmas day
All I would need is my little sweet rider
Just to pass the time away, to pass the time away

You sprinkled hot foot powder, mmm, around my door
All around my door
You sprinkled hot foot powder, all around your daddy's door
It keeps me with ramblin' mind rider
Every old place I go, every old place I go

I can tell the wind is risin', the leaves tremblin' on the tree
Tremblin' on the tree
I can tell the wind is risin', leaves tremblin' on the tree
All I need is my little sweet woman
And to keep my company, hey, hey, hey, hey, my company

Sad

All around me are familiar faces

Worn out places, Worn out faces

Bright and early for the daily races

Going nowhere, Going nowhere

Their tears are filling up their glasses

No expression, No expression

Hide my head I want to drown my sorrow

No tomorrow, No tomorrow

Chorus

And I find it kind of funny, I find it kind of sad

These dreams in which i'm dying, Are the best I've ever had

I find it hard to tell you, I find it hard to take

When people run in circles it’s a very very….

Mad World, Mad World

Verse 2

Children waiting for the day they feel good

Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday

And they feel the way that every child should

Sit and listen, Sit and listen

Went to school and I was very nervous

No one knew me, No one knew me

Hello teacher tell me whats my lesson

Look right through me, Look right through me

Chorus

And I find it kind of funny, I find it kind of sad

These dreams in which i'm dying, Are the best I’ve ever had

I find it hard to tell you, I find it hard to take

When people run in circles it’s a very very….

Mad World, Mad World

Enlargen your world

Mad World

You have to hear it performed by Gary Jules. It is so sad, but I love it!

Southern trees bear strange fruit
Blood on the leaves
Blood at the root
Black bodies swinging in the southern breeze
Strange fruit hanging from the poplar trees
Pastoral scene of the gallant south
The bulging eyes and the twisted mouth
scent of magnolia sweet and fresh
Then the sudden smell of burning flesh
Here is a fruit for the crows to pluck
for the rain to gather
for the wind to suck
for the sun to rot
for the tree to drop
Here is a strange and bitter crop

Lyrics by: Lewis Allan Originally sung by: Billie Holiday

I was listening to this in the car yesterday - a powerful powerful song

Ah, here's one that used to make me weep, every single time I heard it, as a small child. It's stuck in my brain forever, because it was one of the first (English language) songs I heard after my family migrated to Oz. One of the neighbours had a worn copy of this, sung by by Elvis P. I used to embarrass myself by sniffling every time I heard it.

Old Shep

When I was a lad
And old Shep was a pup
Over hills and meadows we'd stray
Just a boy and his dog
We were both full of fun
We grew up together that way

I remember the time at the old swimmin' hold
When I would have drowned beyond doubt
But old Shep was right there
To the rescue he came
He jumped in and then pulled me out

As the years fast did roll
Old Shep he grew old
His eyes were fast growing dim
And one day the doctor looked at me and said
I can do no more for him Jim

With hands that were trembling
I picked up my gun
And aimed it at Shep's faithful head
I just couldn't do it
I wanted to run
I wish they would shoot me instead

He came to my side
And looked up at me
And laid his old head on my knee
I had struck the best friend that a man ever had
I cried so I scarcely could see

Old Shep he has gone
Where the good doggies go
And no more with old Shep will I roam
But if dogs have a heaven
There's one thing I know
Old Shep has a wonderful home

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah .... Sad

Well, a band, well its lead by one man named Connor Oberst but the band is called Bright Eyes, the music does make you cry..well to anyone who has experienced pain and loss..which is about everyone. The music is pure, true and deep. It'll get ya everytime. Here's a little taste of the lyrics:

No Lies, Just Love

It was in the march of the winter I turned seventeen that I bought those pills I thought I would need and I wrote a letter to my family..said it's not your fault and you've been good to me, it's just lately I've been feeling
like I don't belong, like the ground's not mine to walk upon and I've heard that music echo through the house where my grandmother drank by herself and I sat watching a flower as it was withering, I was embarrassed by its honesty so I'd prefer to be remembered as a smiling face, not this f*cking wreck that's taken its place so please forgive what I have done, No you can't stay mad at the setting sun cause we all get tired, I mean eventually there is nothing left to do but sleep but spring came bearing sunlight, those persuasive rays so I gave myself a few more days, my salvation it came, quite suddenly when Justin spoke very plainly, He said "Of course it's your decision, But just so you know,
If you decide to leave, Soon I will follow". I wrote this for a baby,
Who has yet to be born, My brother's first child. I hope that womb's not too warm cause it's cold out here and it'll be quite a shock to breathe this air, to discover loss. So I'd like to make some changes before you arrive
So when your new eyes meet mine they won't see no lies, just love.
Just love.

I will be pure
No, no, I know I will be pure
Like snow, like gold
Like snow, like gold
Like snow, like snow
Like gold, like gold, like gold

<<Connor Oberst>>

This one always gets me going. It's probably the whole loss of a good friend thing:

STRANGER TO HIMSELF
Sandy Denny

He was a stranger to himself
A spy in his own camp
And his money was his health
All thrown to the dust by his very own hand

Yet his beauty lingered still
Beyond the draining of the sand
But greener was the other side of the hill
Richer was the other man's land

But we loved him, loved him just like brothers would
We loved him, loved him like no others could
And she loved him, loved him like a lover should

Take good care of an aching heart
You never can replace it
You know you are the master of your heart
You'll realise that when you think it fit

Those orbs of blue are jading away
No laughter from them dances
Yet you're bound to remember this one day
Hazards are risks and risks are chances

You can run for cover, run for cover like a frightened hare
Till it's all over, all over and there's no-one there
'Cos you daren't discover, daren't discover that we really care
