My Rainsoft unit has been running fine for the past 12 years with nary a problem.....until today. It regenerated last night and this morning there was a salt taste in the water. Checked the unit and the brine tank has much more water than normal. It's about 3/4 full.

Checking the electronic display did not show anything amiss.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

John,

Chances are good that you need new O rings on the piston and the brine injector.
You may also need new shut off tabs.

H2O Man,
Thank you very much for that information.
Would you happen to know where I might be able to get a schematic of that unit?

Thank you,
John

@John Kort,
I am looking for a PDF, but I've had no luck... try RainSoft in Chicago.

@John Kort,
john, there could be multiple problems. some can be solved simply by tightening the compression fitting on the tri-guard to the piston o-rings. may be a bad flow control which is located in the tri-guard where the tube comes from around the valve body to the tri-guard. it allows only a 1/4 gallon a minute. and if its twisted or bad it could over fill the cabinet.

Be extremely careful when tightening the Tri-Guard down on the base.
The old ones are prone to cracking and they can not be repaired.
