My step-father and I argue a lot and I'm sick of it. I'm 18 years old and am planning on moving out, though I'm still in high school. I live in San Diego, CA. My step-father claims that he called and talked to the police after I stormed out of the house to cool off at a friends, and they told him by law, I can't legally move out as long as I'm still in school even though I'm 18. I'm certain he's full of ****! Can anyone help me find the truth?

@kunoichi4life,
Remember, the police are not a good source of legal advice.

I'll wait on one of the lawyers, but I'm sure you're right.

Quote:
Since any person reaching adulthood is presumed by the state to be competent, no other persons, including the person's parents may legally make decisions on his or her behalf. This is true even if a mental health agency or social service agency has determined for their own programs, that the person is mentally handicapped. An adult individual is presumed competent unless a court formally appoints someone as guardian.

If you're 18 you may go and no one can stop you.
