lately it seems like the pissing and moaning and kvetching and bitching and baiting and taunting quotient has gone through the roof

is it the weather, the economy, the political situation, message board menopause or just a normal cycle

@djjd62,
All of the above. It is like this every day with each faction taking their turn as top dog in the sandbox of daily life.

@djjd62,
I truly think that hearing the news about massive REPEATED layoffs, Recession/Depression reports, $850B bank bailouts, makes a lot of folks very cranky. QWe had a moment of glowing optimsim when the gas perices went so far down, but it was blunted by the feeling of things are economically out of out ANYONE'S control, partially due to Petro-speculators and commodity specialists..

Add that too ridiculous DANGEROUS wintery weather all over the USA's midwest and northeast. Sure isn't a pretty sight.

One positive thing was the rescue of all of those people from Flight #1549 on the Hudson River in NYC. That was a real shining light. As a reward for his heroic efforts, why don't we just give this pilot a State of his chosing?!

A possible further explanation : Winter holidays are over and people are looking at their depleted budgets. More unfortunate folks have lost or are losing their jobs (Circuit City stores going belly-up) or are needed to take on a 2nd job. Even less fortunate people are losing homes by the droves. Plus all this is going on while bank execs are being allowed to keep their absurd perks and bonuses. Grumble!

Stark truth is that some of those people are us..or are our families, friends, neighbors or co-workers. I think it's just hard to feel cheery right now. I realize that my feelings or observations might not be accurate to the majority's.

I shall destroy all in my path if spring doesn't embrace me with its warm breath in the next sixteen days.

Cheery note: speaking of dogs, I just tricked a smart dog (16-month-old female Border Collie) by faking her out by running one way and then quickly ducking around 2 corners. She ran the other way. I'm so proud. You'd have to know Border Collies to fully grasp the impact of this one. Then again, I could be easily entertained.

Oh great, now she's stealing my firewood and dragging it out in the snow. Yeah...I'm smarter...right!

Then again, there is this fly flitting around in my house ... ! Drunk

@gustavratzenhofer,
Spring lets its blue ribbon
flutter again in the breeze;
a sweet, familiar scent
sweeps ominously through the land.
Violets are already dreaming,
and will soon arrive.
Hark! In the distance - a soft harp tone!
Spring, yes it is you!
I have heard you!

@Walter Hinteler,
When icicles hang by the wall
And Dick the shepherd blows his nail,
And Tom bears logs into the hall,
And milk comes frozen home in pail;
When blood is nipt, and ways be foul,
Then nightly sings the staring owl
Tu-whoo!
Tu-whit! tu-whoo! A merry note!
While greasy Joan doth keel the pot.

When all around the wind doth blow,
And coughing drowns the parson's saw,
And birds sit brooding in the snow,
And Marian's nose looks red and raw;
When roasted crabs hiss in the bowl"
Then nightly sings the staring owl
Tu-whoo!
Tu-whit! tu-whoo! A merry note!
While greasy Joan doth keel the pot.
