Ray and Anna are my good neighbors who live across the street from me. Ray fixes things around my house and comes to my rescue and puts me back on my feet when I fall down and can't get up.
Sunday morning, I was at my computer in my front office about 8 a.m. when I saw a young man go into Ray's garage (the garage door wouldn't close and was open all night.) I thought it was Ray but Ray's truck was gone and so I watched him. A black 2-door car pulled up in the middle of the street with three guys in it and one young guy got out and helped the other guy steal Ray's, Bryan, his 6 year old son's large toy motorcycle. They tried to put it in the car trunk but it wouldn't fit. I walked outside as fast as I could and confronted them with the theft, which they admitted, but they knew I couldn't do anything and they got in the car and drove off with the front of the cycle in the trunk and the rear wheels on the ground. I had hoped to see the car's license plate but the rear of the cycle covered it up. I watched where they drove and then went to Ray's house to tell his wife Anna about the theft as Ray wasn't home. She was in the shower and had to get dressed, so I drove my car to the cul de sac behind their house where a really bad family lives and saw a car parked in front that looked the same as the thieve's car. Then I returned and Anna called the police, who arrived in about ten minutes. They talked to the young men in the house, there was a bunch of them, and then drove me in a police car to see if I could identify any of the young men. I didn't see any that looked like the three thieves and the police didn't find the cycle on their property. This is the second time Ray's been robbed. Anna's car and Ray's truck are always parked in their driveway, and they keep them locked. Three weeks ago, somebody broke into Ray's truck and stole Ray's radio stereo system. Susie's daughter next door had her car broken into three months ago, too. Two months ago, I was away for a while and on return noticed that the cover of my garage door combination pad was up. I never leave the cap up so I knew someone had made an attempt to get in my garage. I never leave my garage door open and always have my house doors locked. We apparently have some thieves working in our neighborhood looking for open garage doors. Two houses in the cul de sac behind my house had things stolen from their garages about 3 months ago. The guy was caught on one owner's exterior camera but don't know if he's been identified. A police officer has moved into the house behind mine, who is taking an interest so I assume the thieves will eventually be identified.
Other than this, not much is happening, except a light snow started about an hour ago.

Damn, BBB. Diane has a point.
@edgarblythe,
I know, Edgar. I hate it when Diane is right!
The more I think of me standing there, yelling at the guys to put to Bryan's cycle back and to get out of here as loud and fircely as I could. They just looked at the pitiful old disabled lady and laughed. I was so mad I wanted to smack their arogant mugs.
I learned last night, that they also stole Ray's bag of tools that are very valuable to him. The keys to all of his house doors were in the bag. Now Ray has to change all the locks on his house. Bummer!
While you were unsuccessful at stopping the thieves, I'm sure it still meant a lot to your neighbors that you tried to confront them. Perhaps foolish, but the noble in my book.

@BumbleBeeBoogie,
BBB, I don't know you well enough to lecture you, but I will say this.
Were this Lady Diane's doings, she would expect an earful from me, and she still scoots around pretty good, and has a gun in the house...
(please be careful)
@Diest TKO,
The police were astonished, too. They said "You did what?" Then they asked me how old I was? One of them laughed and said he wouldn't like to meet up with me in a dark alley.
BBB
@Rockhead,
The thieves were lucky I wasn't packing a gun.

Hey mom, maybe cjhsa will loan you one of his. The trouble is that the recoil would knock you on your butt and then you'd have to ask the thieves to help you get up.
Rocky, you're more than welcome to join the team of lecturers. Just know that it has never done much good.
Remember, "You always get farther with a kind word, and a gun, than you do with a kind word alone"
@Butrflynet,
You are right about the gun recoil knocking me on my butt. I wonder if the thieves would have helped me up?
@Butrflynet,

one does not need to pack a cannon. A little 9mm would suffice, even a 22 is intimidating. If you werent packing then you should have called the police and just taken a picture
@BumbleBeeBoogie,
Use a shotgun then you would only had needed one shot in any case.
My wife just love her short barrel riot shotgun and I am sure that would get their attention.
@BumbleBeeBoogie,
Oh bumblebeeboogie be sure to rack the shotgun <place shell in barrel>as you approach them, as there is no sound on earth like a shotgun being rack to settle down a group of people with evil on their minds.
Shooting with a 35mm sounds like a fine idea....
@BumbleBeeBoogie,
I don't know - I would have done something similar (but then again I have been known to do stupid things when it is the right thing to do).
It may have been stupid, but it was the right thing to do. These idiots will keep getting away with stealing stuff if some one doesn't stand up to them. You have an option - let these hoodlums run the neighborhood and take what they want or stop them. Yep you could put yourself in harm's way - but personally I couldn't live with myself if it is something I may be able to stop.
@Linkat,
She has never backed down from anything out of fear. However, she's going to be 80 this year and I think it is high time she got a rest from being Wonder Woman for the neighborhood. Luckily, when I move to ABQ in a couple months, I'll be able to take over for her in the stupid but right thing to do department.
@Butrflynet,
I can picture myself doing the same thing even at 80 - I am 5'2" about 110 pounds so granted I am a bit younger, I've done similar things. It's the big guys that act like bullies that are really wimps.
But I am glad for her sake that you will step in and be the stupid one!
@Linkat,
Ya know there is nothing like a ittle ole lady with white hair, hands on her hips with the wrath of hell in her eyes that wouldnt scare the **** out of anyone.
Good for you BBB
@Sglass,
Skert woman with a gun in her hand would work for me.
