Nodding in agreement with your comments - especially with the mention of the album of Plant and Allison Krauss together. What a gem of an album. Can you believe that is the same person that sang 'Stairway to Heaven?
I'd agree for the Daltrey of the past. Nowadays, he's lost his voice...witness the SuperBowl performance of the leftovers of The Who.

@Ragman,
No! He sounds so mellow while singing with Alison. BTW, did you see the interview that Alison, Robert and TBone did with Charlie Rose? It was so obvious that these were three people who enjoyed each other's company and inspired each other.

Seriously folks, one of the greatest voices in rock hasn't been mentioned by anyone I saw - Steve Walsh of Kansas! After 35 years he still sounds fantastic. Check "There's Know Place Like Home" probably the best live show DVD ever. Also how about Jackson Browne & Don Henley of Eagles?
A friend of mine once said that there are people with beautiful voices and people who know how to sing.
That's true.
Rock has produced some stunning vocal performances but it has made a lot of people pay a steep price for the screams and theatricality.
