Should economic development take prevalence over the protection of the environment?
Economic re-development would help preserve the environment.
Depends how much you enjoy living in squalor.
In fact, thousands and thousands of people have made very good money out of finding ways to prosper economic development in ways which are consonant with the protection of the environment. It is an extremely silly premise that there is any choice which must be made between good economic health and environmental protection. It is reminiscent of the pouting capitalists who have been dragged kicking and screaming into the modern world, while objecting that prohibitions on child labor, floors on wages and ceilings on hours, and government regulation to protect society and the environment would bankrupt them. Surprise, surprise . . . they're still in business, and our lives are not squalid.
Kinda depends on whether you want to stay rich.
It depends more upon whether or not society is willing to put up with one's antics to get and stay rich. Given that politicians are usually for sale, however, it shouldn't be too difficult to pull it off. Whining about the cost of environmental protection legislation is just that--whining. You can bet your average garden-variety capitalist takes the cost out of the customer.
