I haven't been participating here for a while. I had another opportunity to travel at a discounted rate on a nature expedition cruise. The ship normally carries 70 passangers but the week I went they only had 24. This made for a nice personal experience.
I travelled with a friend of mine into Panama City. They bused us to Colon and we boarded the ship for the Canal crossing. We stopped midway through the canal overnight and toured the Smithsonian Research Center grounds. We then proceded up the Pacific side of Panama and Costa Rica. We also spent 2 days on our own trying to see the Arenal volcano.
If anyone would like to see pics I'll attach my Flickr page. It may take me a while to get it finished though.
But now I'm back to snowy, cold Seattle wishing I were back on the beach.
@martybarker,
Wow, great holiday! Can't wait to see the pics and welcome back, MB.
Great pics! Thank you
Good to see on an icy, snowy, frigid day.
@Mame,
Mame, I'll post my favorite in a minute. Now wait for it, it's a good one.
Oh, how interesting, Marty. The pictures are great, but tell us more!
What cities did you visit and how is life there? How is Panama and Panama City?
@martybarker,
Oho Marty - who is this gentleman?
@martybarker,
Niiiiiice! Now I'll be able to recognize you if we ever hook up. You look so relaxed...
@CalamityJane,
The time spent off of the boat was mainly at national Parks or nature preserves. So I didn't get a good feel for the cultural differences or similarities. The first day hike was pretty hot and humid with plenty of water and mud crossings. But we did see a variety of monkeys.
Our second day we went to a small island that was a part of a National park in Panama(Isla Coiba National Park) and snorkeled in pristine water along a coral reef with tons of fish. I saw 3 white-tipped reef sharks and found it to be quite unsettling.
@martybarker,
The gentleman is the ships doctor.....I had stepped on coral and needed daily bandage changes
Looks like a great time Marty. Who is the beautiful blond?
@martybarker,
Great pictures Marty. Wish my blond Doctor is as friendly as yours.
