A cure for slow drivers? The Left Lane Drivers want to sell you a sticker.

If the lane to the right of you is open, then yes.

All model citizens here - so I admit it: my name is Calamity Jane and I am a speeder. Usually I drive around 80 mph and most people move over when
I am behind them. There are some stubborn drivers out there who deliberately
drive in the left lane either at speed limit or below and I found they're mostly
very old and/or Mexican gardeners with their lawn mower equipment sticking
out of their beat-up pickup truck. In both cases, they're insecure drivers
who never should be provoked with horns or lights - there is always a lane to
get passed them.

That guy behind you COULD be trying to get an injured child to the hospital in time to save him.

In Iowa you can get a ticket for driving in the left lane on a 4 lane interstate (2 each way) if no other traffic is around. The left lane is for passing only. If you aren't actively passing someone, you shouldn't be in that lane.

I'm guessing in the case of speeding way over the limit, the cops would deem that a worse violation, and go after the speeder rather then the person who didn't move over.

Am I the only one who finds the stickers funny?

@Nick Ashley,
I find them funny in that I would ignore them. Why not just have a loud speaker mounted to your car and yell at them? lol

I agree with CJ that there are some people who just don't get over because "they don't feel like it" and that makes me mad. It's usually one person holding up an entire line of cars and that to me is silly. Especially when the right lane is passing the slow ass in the left lane.

It's all about what's going on at the time. Sometimes, the slower driver has the right, sometimes the faster one does.

But there is a fast lane for a reason....if you aren't driving with the flow of traffic in that lane, get out of it. Period.

I would agree, assuming that the flow of traffic in that lane is not going more than 5mph over the speed limit.

I think speeding sits right up there with drunk driving as far as things not to do.

@Mame,
In high school we used to drive around yelling at pedestrians. We never had a loud speaker though. We just used to do stuff like this:

It all depends on the traffic. If everyone's all going 120 km, then 120 km is the safe speed. If it's wet and everyone's going 100, then 100 is the safe speed. Nothing wrong with speed if you have control of your car and you're not endangering anybody else.

I cannot stand these imposed regulations on us. Do they not think we can judge or ourselves in various situations?

@maporsche,
What? How often do you drive on the expressway? I do it every day, and the flow of traffic is sometimes 10 over in 2 or more of the lanes.

If you can't drive with the flow of traffic, YOU are the hazard, not the other drivers. Nothing like cruising along and suddenly come up on one guy going 10 mphs less than you and 20 cars slamming on their breaks in succession.

@Bella Dea,
Pretty much everyday myself too.

They are breaking the law, they are the hazard.

You do realize that the speed of vehicles has very detrimental effect on the passengers of cars when accidents occur don't you? An accident at 90 is very likely not going to have any survivors. An accident at 65 is much more likely.

If you're breaking the law, you are the hazard, no if ands or buts.

@Mame,
Not everyone is a physics expert and is able to judge what is a safe speed or not Mame.

200mph on a NASCAR track = safe
90mph on a freeway = should lose their license and pay at least $5000 in fines for endangering the lives of others.

I have ofen done that; (not always; it depends on how I feel).

My rationale is that I am within my RIGHTS
to drive at the speed limit
and that illegally faster traffic
has NO RIGHT to extort an illegally faster speed
from me, nor that I move into the entrance ramp lane.

I have no duty
to facilitate their violation of the speed limit law.
Thay act like I DO.

U r ignoring the fact that it is the FAST LANE up to but not beyond
the posted speed limit, and u ignore the fact that people have been
killed by fast speed of other drivers.

Every driver has the right to drive within the law,
in any lane in which he drives.

I resent it,
when the leftmost lane is mostly occupied by fairly lite traffic,
and a speedster comes up behind trying to use his lights n horn
to knock everyone over to the right out of his way,
as if he drove an ambulance; some nerve !

I don t help them out.

You'd better make sure of this in your jurisdiction; sometimes that guy wanting to act like an ambulance actually NEEDS to act like an ambulance.

Why do people think there is something called 'the fast lane'?

I've been working in and around auto insurance for about 25 years. I've yet to find any legislation referring to 'the fast lane'. There are lots of references to passing lanes - kind of makes it clear what the purpose of the lane is.

~~~
Of course, my whole industry would disappear if people applied that knowledge.
