lots of issues

pakistan and india are in conflict over the border area known as kashmir

they've had a few wars in the past decades and nearly came to blows after a train bombing in india in 2006

if the militants aren't pakistani (pakistan say's they are not) it could be an attempt by some like al queda to destabilize the region

it's be,ieved that al queda has moved it's base of operations over the border from afghanistan to pakistan, if pakistan and india go to war, it would further complicate american efforts to hunt down al queda

the attack was pretty well planned and orchestrated, it's amazing what maybe ten to twenty guys with automatic weapons and grenades can accomplish

@Seed,
India is also an ally of the US and Britain, with a very large population, and there are a lot of poorer folks. Might also be something of a motive to sow the seeds of revolution, or at least recruit for al qaeda or the like by selling it as a means toward the end of revolution.

We're definitely not immune to terrorists. Hell, we can grow 'em here, too (remember Timothy McVeigh and friends?).

And yes, we've paid them in the past, but I doubt that we're financing this particular crowd. Google Iran-Contra as an example of sanctioned terrorism, masking as "freedom fighting", paid for the good ole USA.

@jespah,
Using terms loosely only helps propagates confusion - at best.

India is NOT an ally of either the US or Great Britain.

They training and (maybe) money would have come from the ISS, the Pakistani intelligence organisation. It's what they do best, and they have plenty of experience. During the CIA-orchestrated Soviet invasion of Afghanistan* the Pakistanis became the main conduit of illegal military aid and assistance. They took the opportunity to soak the US for billions, arm and train people like Bin Laden - and give it their own spin. They are now using the very weapon they once aimed at the Soviets to attack India. And the US justs keeps the money flowing in....

Quote:
The events of September 11, 2001, and Pakistan's agreement to support the United States led to a waiver of the sanctions, and military assistance resumed to provide spare parts and equipment to enhance Pakistan's capacity to police its western border with Afghanistan and address its legitimate security concerns. In 2003, President Bush announced that the United States would provide Pakistan with $3 billion in economic and military aid over 5 years. This assistance package commenced during FY 2005.

*The 'Soviet Trap', these are the recommendations made in December 26, 1979 in a memo to the President from Zbigniew Brzezinski....

WHAT IS TO BE DONE?

What follows are some preliminary thoughts, which need to be discussed more fully:

A. It is essential that Afghanistani resistance continues. This means more money as well as arms shipments to the rebels, and some technical advice;

B. To make the above possible we must both reassure Pakistan and encourage it to help the rebels. This will require a review of our policy toward Pakistan, more guarantees to it, more arms aid.

C. We should encourage the Chinese to help the rebels also.

D. We should concert with Islamic countries both a propaganda campaign and in a covert action campaign to help the rebels;
