How many times was the story re-told before Jesus came about?

Its impossible to really find out since the story was fimly in existence by the time any historical documentation came about. As far back as we can establish history, the story was already there. Ancient Egypt, ancient asia, mesopotamia; its been told so many times and has such roots in astrology/astronomy that its likely that its the oldest story we know of to exist.
