A2K Fantasy Hockey

I am in an ESPN Football league this year and really like the site (free live scoring, a little more control of the league, etc.) , so I was thinking about setting up the hockey league there to give people a chance to try it out and maybe switch to ESPN for baseball and Football next year.

Sound alright?

@jpinMilwaukee,
That sounds fine to me, JP.
Do you think we can garner enough A2K participants?

@George,
Yeah I think so. Feel free to invite non-a2k people as well.

I'll set up the league and send out invites, so if you want me to invite someone that isn't here, just send me their email and I'll send out an invite.

You can count me as "interested." I'd like to know more about the details.

@jpinMilwaukee,
I've never been to a hockey game or even watched an entire game on TV. As I said on the football thread, I do have a movie in which one of the stars plays the part of a former hockey player and I do recognize hockey when I see it. Is that enough?

(I'm just now sorta getting up to speed on navigating Yahoo Fantasy Football. I hope ESPN isn't more complicated.)

@joefromchicago,
Well... I'd actually like a little input before I set up the league. We can structure it in a variety of ways. Default ESPN settings have 9 forward positions (which can be an combination of centers, LW and RW) then 5 Defensemen and 2 goalies.

Alternately I can specify which forward positions are played (ie. 3 centers 3 RW 3 LW) which I think is a more realistic setup. I can also do a combination of the two (ie. 2 centers 2 LW 2 RW and 3 forward positions).

That would allow for a little bit of flexibility while still being a realistic set up. Any comments questions or concerns?

@Foxfyre,
That is plenty! If you've ever watched Strange Brew you are qualified to play Fantasy Hockey. ESPN is very similar to Yahoo, but with more tools. You have live scoring. A Stats tab which shows stats for the year so far. A Projections tab which tries to project points based on that days match up, and a couple of other cool features. But the basic premise is still the same.

I like that idea.

I've played on Yahoo with incredible luck (I can't even tell you more than a few names of the hockey teams)... or it is perhaps that since I have absolutely no allegiances, all I do is read the numbers.

Last NHL game I saw was in 1967-68. Go St. Louis Blues!
Last hockey game I saw live was Mexico defeating South Africa 5-0, circa 2001. (My Jr. high school had an ice hockey team; I wanted to try-out, but training was at 6:00 a-m and I'm not the kind to wake up that early).
Last hockey game I saw on TV was the olympic final in Torino, 2006.

Let's see if we can gather a league.
Got already a Zappaish team name: Hungry Freaks, Daddy

Let me know when you have the league set up using whatever rules yall agree on. Don't we need to hurry a bit? I think I saw there are games in Sweden this weekend. I don't know if they are regular season or exhibition games.

Don't know much about hockey, but if they can find some little bitty ice skates, the Fightin' Gerbils are game.
