HDTV and artifacting

A similar question to the programming one below. I recently bought an HD Sharp television and a bluray player that supposedly upconverts standard dvds. However, I'm still getting pretty serious artifacting. What I want to know is

- is it the size of the tv? 52 inches...

- is the tv at all? I've tried every setting...the bluray's coming in through hdmi.

- or, is it the bluray player...is it just a lousy upconverter?

Anyone tackled this problem?

Thanks!

@etan,
Have you tried connecting the player to a different tv to figure it out by the process of elimination?

@etan,
Blue ray discs are even more sensitive to being scratched, especially radially, so I suggest you look at your DVD's condition. There are two cleaning and polishing products that I use that may cure the problem. You also may have a loose pin in your HTML connector.
