Most this information is from my 9:00am conversation with Steve, the ICU nurse, some comes from visits yesterday.
Right now my mother is "riding the respirator", the respirator is breathing for her. This is expected because she is on morphine to limit her pain and diprivan to keep her from moving. Yesterday on a lower dose of morphine there were periods were she was doing some of her own breathing.
She is on
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norepinephrine to keep her blood pressure high. Yesterday she needed 18 mcg/minute of Norepinephrine (levophed) to keep her blood pressure up. This morning 10/mcg/minute was doing the job.
Until Thursday afternoon, My mom was in shape to work directly with her doctors, so their reluctance to return my calls was forgivable.

And one more thing, and of course this is not about me at all, but I do want to say how honored and privileged I feel to be let into this very difficult time in your life, D___.
