Can this garden hose be saved?

Reply Wed 9 Jul, 2008 06:17 pm
Knucklehead Mo poked holes in my hose.

I tried duct tape. It didn't work. I thought duct tape fixed everything.

I tried Gorilla tape. It didn't work.

So today I bought these hose repair deals like the absolute sucker that I am. Cut the hose, insert the doohickey, screw on the clamps and ......not so presto.

Grrrr.

.....Wrap the whole damn contraption in Gorilla tape....

Nope, not going to work.

At the risk of seeing my whole garden dry up and blow away tonight I went out and bought a new hose. $35 damn dollars.

Meanwhile my old hose that had three punctures is now cut into three pieces thanks to the miracle fix it kit.

Is there any way at all to save my old hose?

If not, do you have any fascinating practical or artistic uses you can suggest for me to use my old hose on?

I hate just throwing things away.

Thanks!

is it somewhat see-through?

you could put christmas lights in it.

otherwise i wouldn't bother fixing it.

Pieces of hose would be really good ingredients for a marble run!

Like something Rube Goldberg-ish. (Marble goes through hose, onto something that directs it into something that knocks over something that...)

Ahhh... now yer talking!

I wonder if the little magnet balls from his magnetics pack would run through there. I'm gonna check that out!

They should!

They're perfect. (We use them a lot... heavier and smoother and "go" better than regular marbles.)

short pieces of garden hose make great slug traps - honestly !
put them in a damp place - underneath plants - ; the slugs like to hide in dark places after a night's meal . make sure the bottom of the opening is just a fraction below ground level , so that they can easily slide in .
next morning you pick up the pieces , dump out the slugs into a pail of water with a drop of oil on top : PRESTO !

you can also use the left-overs to make rings to hold bushes in place - better than rope .

finally : they might make a "trickle hose " . put lots of holes in the longest piece , attach to faucet , place overnight in garden and let the water trickle - turn the tap on just so .

you'll probably need more punctured hose than you have now . just let mo know , i'm sure he'll be glad to assist Laughing

You could make a vase, not one that Martha Stewart would endorse, but it would hold flowers .

Sliced lengthwise old garden hose make great guards on hand saw blades. I guess you could use them to protect the edges on swords and Bowie knives.

Yep, I'm going into the slug trap, blade protection business!

Those are great ideas!!

Seriously, in the soggy part of Oregon non-chemical slug traps would probably sell well. I haven't had a problem in my garden yet as the slugs prefer the hedge. But I just seriously trimmed the hedge, so.....

At the old house I used beer traps until I discovered how much my dog liked beer. The traps were always empty and my dog was always drunk.

I think there are "thingies" you can buy that cover one small area of hose. (Maybe I was seeing things...)

Short pieces of hose, huh? Wouldn't mention this if you were in Texas, but how much is a gallon of unleaded going for in Oregon?

I am guessing you have a decent garden shop somewhere in Portland.

People employed by them and often the owners have some good knowledge.

Venture in and ask them.

Not sure if you're still looking for a repair solution, but mastic tape should work.

It's kinda gooey and rubbery; one you tape the area you mash it all together and it forms a water-proof barrier.

You then cover the mastic tape with a layer of electrical tape.

Look on the rack in the garden store, there may be some items that may help. I don't have personal experience with this so I'll try to be quiet.

Sell it on ebay as a handcrafted soaker hose. Or cut it up and sell them as bong tubes.

I understand they are looking for short lengths of garden hose down Guantanamo bay way.

Perhaps you could do a bulk deal with the military CIA and FBI
