The Above numbers are just an estimate. For e.g. the last few days (at the time of this posting) show a dip when the server logs (which are actual traffic logs, not a thrid party estimate) show the past two days as being the heaviest days of use in site history.

Alexa is a company owned by Amazon that has a toolbar that web surfers can download and serve as a sampling of web use patterns.
It's like being one of the participants in the neilsen ratings for television. When you have the toolbar turned on your internet use is added to their web use statistics and they can then display the rankings for the most popular sites, related sites etc. Web rating companies such as Alexa are the only way for the public to know what sites get the most visitors because the site's server logs are not disclosed by each site.
The Alexa statistics are the most comprehensive available for web usage but they are still not accurate except for the first few hundred sites because it all depends on their
toolbar users and the web use that they report.
