i find it a hard magazine to define, i don't see at being specifically for men or women

i've read it on and off depending on the articles within, some very well respected writers have graced it's pages

I feel like that about Esquire. It's supposed to be a men's magazine but I subscribe because they have brilliant writing.

I do find it interesting that people are all up in arms over the people at that polygamist ranch marrying 16 year olds but not having a problem with a 15 year old in a satin sheet trying to look sexy. I mean if we believe they are old enough to be adults and make adult decisions such as this with the blessing of their parents what is the difference?

Actually- let me just ask - are people that upset over the polygamist ranch? Are the same ones that are upset over the polygamy of 16 year olds the ones that are outraged with Miley's photo?

I would be interested to know if there are two different ways of thinking about a religious sect catapulting their children into adulthood before they are ready, and this teen super-star pretty much doing the same thing...but wanting it both ways if you ask me. Wants to be seen as a child -to keep the teen following - but dangling her sexuality out there for an adult following as well...

both are pretty creepy to me.

It's been 20 years since I've been a teenager, but IMO she likely just wanted to be seen as grown up rather than intentionally dangling her sexuality.

I am probably projecting because of the other pics circulating the www being a little sexy, pulling her shirt down, taking photos of herself in her underwear with her camera phone. It is a good point dadpad - but I do believe she is testing her sexuality too.

I think it is a shame to grow up too soon.

youre a mind reader CJ. Gimme a hint please. Is she in "Charmed"?

No, her show is called "Hannah Montana" and in it she plays a teenage
singer and her father (Billy Ray) is her father/manager in the show too.

She has gone on tour with her songs, and her concert tickets were
traded at around $ 400. All little girls see Hannah Montana as role model,
so naturally this spread in Vanity Fair did not sit well with fans and their
parents.

As I said before, I am not in favor of those "Lolita" pictures, just for
the mere reason, that child pornography has increased tenfold in recent years.

That's a very good point, mismi. You give them a slightly different scene,
and they show their true colors.

I can't even begin to compare the two so I guess I'm guilty of two different ways of thinking.

One is 50 year old men having sex with 17 year old girls.

The other is a photograph.

While I certainly don't approve of the sexualization of children I abhor sex with children.

Yes, but a big portion of child pornography is distributed via photos and videos. Where do you draw the line?
What would people have said, if the same picture was taken of Abigail Breslin (Miss Little Sunshine) who is 11 years old.

You MIGHT be able to turn that into a legitimate comparison, CJane, but the other one you can't. The difference between a group of girls sequesterd on some "ranch", having sex with old men and a millionaire (billionaire?) businesswoman posing for a provocative photo are night and day.

I worked for 20 years as a hired camera (unfortunately I didn't make $10,000 a day or anywhere near that) but I did learn a thing or two about stage "moms" (gender doesn't really matter, it's slang). Of any group of people who deserve a punch in the nose (or jail time) stage moms fit the bill more than any other group (except maybe old farts who knock up a lot of young girls for god).

Stage moms are absolutely reprehensible. Terrible, awful people who essentially sell their children to realize own their unmet dreams.

Whether it be a 70 year old man knocking up a 16 year old or a stage Mom pushing her child to be something well before she needs to be. It is a sad situarion to put these kids in positions where they have no place yet. It is sad either way...these are children.

We don't trust them to drive yet, they cannot vote and it is still illegal fior them to drink. They are not adults, they need parents to make decisions as if they are children to protect them from the world that apparently is okay with setting up a girl as a sex object well before she should be, or knocking her up for god when she is 16 - either situation is pretty disturbing.

Oh, I agree with the stage moms, boomer. Just one look at Lindsey
Lohan's mother and Brittney Spear's mother and you know why the girls
are so screwed up.

But with apologies to George Orwell: some things are more disturbing than others.

I'm sorry mismi. I'm not usually such a witch.

I've got a little god stuck in my craw right now.

Any talk of "him" or anything done in his name makes me get all omSig.

Apologies.

I'm gonna go take a shower and read for a while.

I threw that in about Achy-Breaky to be an idiot. Miley, as Hannah Montana is a bigger star than he ever was. I go along with the others who condemn the photo.
