For those interested in detail of Annie Leibovitz, see this link:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Annie_Leibovitz

The point of this reference back to her is based on her style which "is marked by a close collaboration between the photographer and the subject."

Boomer, the way you conduct yourself, one would never guess that
you suffer from depression. You're mostly so upbeat and have the attitude
of someone who can handle everything.

eoe, you think so? Hm, I am going to check now if I can find something
online to the fact, that Annie chose the pose for Miley. She must have
realized that this is a minor and a Lolita picture like this will create a lot
of controversy (which it does actually). I don't think Liebowitz was ready
for this kind of negative publicity. I'll check if I can find something.....

Thanks, Rag. I assume AL had the zone with Cyrus.

I'm wildly iffy on dealing with 15 year olds. They may be enthusiastic but lack judgement. On the other hand, I'm no prude and that wasn't a wildly sexy photo.

This question does matter to me.

You'll pardon me for the slight diversion, however, on Leibovitz's bio link regarding the famous iconic photo of Lennon and Ono, I just learned the following info:

"On December 8, 1980, Leibovitz had a photo shoot with John Lennon for Rolling Stone, promising him he would make the cover. After she had initially tried to get a picture with just Lennon alone (she would recall that, "nobody wanted [Ono] on the cover."), Lennon insisted that both he and Yoko Ono be on the cover.

Leibovitz then tried to recreate the kissing scene from the Double Fantasy album cover, a picture that she loved. "What is interesting is she said she'd take her top off and I said, 'Leave everything on'...not really preconceiving the picture at all. Then he curled up next to her and it was very, very strong. You couldn't help but feel that she was cold and he looked like he was clinging on to her...I shot some test Polaroids first and when I showed them to John and Yoko, John said, 'You've captured our relationship exactly. Promise me it'll be on the cover.' I looked him in the eye and we shook on it."

She was the last person to professionally photograph Lennon?-he was shot and killed five hours later."

This is my own humble opinion but I'll take a guess and say that everyone knew exactly what they were doing, the Cyrus', Vanity Fair, Disney and Annie Leibowitz, but once the shot was out there and the response was so negative, Disney and the Cyrus clan backed off and decided to blame VF and the photographer, as if someone put a gun to that childs' head ?-in front of her big' ol daddy?-and demanded that she drop her top and take that shot.

I'd bet five bucks that a rep from Disney was on the set as well.

Sorry for nitpicking, but it's spelled Leibovitz...not witz. A couple of people have misspelled it.

Carry on.

Yep, I think it was deliberately done for publicity purposes. Negative publicity is still publicity after all.

And now it's more than teenyboppers and their parents talking about her.

the following is taken from Leibovitz link I provided earlier:

"In 2007, the Walt Disney Company hired her to do a series of photographs with celebrities in various roles and scenes for Walt Disney World's "Year of a Million Dreams" campaign.

On April 25, 2008, the televised entertainment program Entertainment Tonight reported that 15 year old Miley Cyrus had posed topless for a photo shoot with Vanity Fair. The photo, and subsequently released behind-the-scenes photos, show Cyrus without a top, her bare back exposed but her front covered with a bedsheet. The photo shoot was taken by photographer Annie Leibovitz.

The full photograph was published with an accompanying story on The New York Times' website on April 27, 2008. On April 29, 2008, The New York Times clarified that though the pictures left an impression that she was bare-breasted, Cyrus was wrapped in a bedsheet and was actually not topless.

Some parents expressed outrage at the nature of the photograph, which a Disney spokesperson described as "a situation [that] was created to deliberately manipulate a 15-year-old in order to sell magazines."

In response to the internet circulation of the photo and ensuing media attention, Cyrus released a statement of apology on April 27:

"I took part in a photo shoot that was supposed to be ?'artistic' and now, seeing the photographs and reading the story, I feel so embarrassed. I never intended for any of this to happen and I apologize to my fans who I care so deeply about."

Leibovitz also released a statement saying:

""I'm sorry that my portrait of Miley has been misinterpreted," Leibovitz said. " The photograph is a simple, classic portrait, shot with very little makeup, and I think it is very beautiful."

My first thought after reading it was that the little Cyrus girl is full of **** already. And that's a shame. Rolling Eyes

But I like the way Annie Leibovitz stood behind it.

No problem. I felt that 'cause we're repeating her name so many times that perhaps we should get it right. It's just the reporter in me.

Personally, my feeling is that for culpability here I'd look to the Dad. He is adult in charge of this child and the one who signs the release.

Me too. If he had a problem with the shot then, as her father, he had every right to speak up. The 15 year old probably saw it as very hot and very adult, couldn't wait for it to hit the stands. My original thought when first hearing about it was that the idea behind the shot, and why the Cyrus' may have agreed to it was to maybe kick off the tricky process of easing her out of kiddieland and into the adult world of acting. It's still a bit early but perhaps someone?-agent, manager, publicist, parent, the kid?- was thinking ahead a few years?

yes..eoe, I agree. The behavior and judgement (and lying) behind the adult parent B-R Cyrus is what is most disturbing here to me. He is the one that comes off looking like trailer trash. It didn't have to be that way. He had the choice.

check this out:

Cyrus Offered Playboy Centerfold
Teen superstar Miley Cyrus has been offered the chance to pose naked for Playboy magazine, as soon as she turns 18. Playboy boss Hugh Hefner wants to the 15-year-old to follow up her controversial photographs for Vanity Fair last month, and strip off completely in the pages of his legendary men's magazine - but only when she reaches the legal age. The Hannah Montana star sparked outrage when the candid snaps - which show Cyrus posing bare-backed, wrapped in a satin sheet - emerged online, forcing the singer/actress to issue an apology over the controversial Annie Leibovitz photos. Hefner says Cyrus would be "welcomed in the magazine." The 82-year-old also slammed the furor surrounding her poses for Vanity Fair: "I think to make such a big to do over something as innocent as those photos, I think is a reflection on how schizophrenic America is about sexuality."

It's called PUBLICITY BABY! Smile

All I can think of in this seeking of publicity is the phrase 'like vultures to carrion'.
