Would you be apprehensive about driving across this bridge?

The Millau viaduct is part of the new E11 expressway connecting
Paris and Barcelona and features the highest bridge piers ever constructed. The tallest is 240 meters ( 891 feet) high an the overall height is an impressive 336 meters (1102 feet), making this the highest bridge in the world. It is taller than the Eiffel Tower.

Intriguingly, the Millau Viaduct is not straight. A straight road could induce a sensation of floating for drivers, which a slight curve remedies. The curve is 20km in range. Moreover, the road has a light incline of 3% to improve the visibility and reassure the driver, an amazing engineering feat!

Give a beaver a stream and some aspen trees, she'll build a dam. Give an engineer some steel and concrete. . . .

French stamp, issued on 03.01.05 (the opening of the viaduct was earlier, on 14th/16th December 2004)

I have fear of heights, as in cliffs, gotten almost all at once at one episode on a job site, but I still love bridges.

As for Millau, I'd love to see it.

And I'm sure I posted on those old threads.

Hint to BBB - some of us are posting articles that are basically about architectural, landscape architectural, or site engineering design, in the art forum, since, at base, these are arts. I suppose in many cases that is arguable, but, say, re engineering, Arup has had a great presence on perceived art. And the Millau bridge was overseen by an architect. In lieu of a site design forum, that's where we've gone. Not that everyone has to follow that, just what we have been trying to do, more or less, in the last few years. (since the Millau links).
