Sydney or Melbourne or Brisbane?

Hi friends...

I am in immigration procedure to Australia I will get my PR by 4-6 month.

I am civil engineer with master in hydraulics and 6 years of experience. My main proficiency is in water and waste water engineering.

I don't know which city of AU to select?

Are there any priority due to my proficiency?

What are the main differences between these 3 cities?

thank you all for responding.

Well -
Sydney has had a ton of rain lately;
we have a water shortage despite this; (why don't they build the bloody dams where it rains!?)
we are still on level 3 water restrictions;
the bloody government is threatening us with a water desalination plant;
and the sewers are filled to .....
and so on..........

Other cities - haven't got a clue! Sorry.

I don't really have a clue what a waste water engineer does - can you tell by my ramblings (all in an Aussie accent, mind you! Razz )

A water and waste water engineer is a person who can design pipe network for collecting the storm water and sewage and then transfer them to treatment plant.

Hello again, Zartosht.

I imagine that someone in your line of work would be in demand in the southern states of Australia at the moment, though I'm no expert in this area, you understand. I'll have a bit of a think & return, OK?

Is this the sort on plant you'd work in? This is in my state, Victoria. (Melbourne is the capital city.)

I think there would be work for you in all three cities. - So it's really a question of which city you would rather live in. What sort of climate do you like?

Are you interested in finding an Iranian community in your adopted city? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iranian_Australian

With all the irrigation infrastructure projects in the north of the state and pipeline projects around Melbourne that will happen in the next few years I'd suggest there would be demand in Victoria (Melbourne).

Thank you hingehead and dadpad....

Regarding the climate, I should say I can not stand hot weather!!

I am from a a very cold region in Iran.

So, from all directions it seems that I should think about melbourne. right?

well... it still gets hot in Melbourne 37C is not uncommon with generally 1 or two 40C days each year. (Do you use celcius as a measure of temparature). but thats hot for all of us. Mostly it's milder.. around 30C over summer
I live in the mountains in Victoria it is only 50Km to the ski resorts. even here it reaches 40C some days each year.

Perhaps you should look to Tasmania.

Its funny how we have preconceived notions of other countries. I think of Iran as a middle eastern country, all sand and desert. I should really know not to hold these assumptions.

whatever happens wherever you finish up... she'll be right.

I agree with Dad - Melbourne can get damnably hot. Maybe Canberra would suit you more, but it can get hot over summer (but not humid). Tasmania is a good idea too, I guess but I can't imagine it's anything like the climate your used to.

I knew a few Iranians in Canberra - perhaps you should contact one of our iranian communities, or find someone in your town who has a relative here and see what their experience was. Oddly enough Sydney is cooler than Melbourne - but more humid. Brisbane is hot and humid over summer but very pleasant during winter. You would hate Adelaide's climate. Sorry bunny.

O.K

We are using celcius as well.
The Fahrenheit scale coincides with the Celsius scale at -40 °F, which is the same temperature as -40 °C.

Iran has 4 seasons at the same time. I am from north of Iran where the average temperature during winter is (-10°C) and also in south we have places with 50 °C in summers!!

Forget about the news you are hearing about Iran. They are political propagandas.

The governmental medias here in Iran are doing the same negative ads on west. They say that there is no sign of affection and respect in western societies!!!

We can not count on the directed medias.

Yep - for amazingly changeable weatehr - you just have to go to Melbourne. 4 seasons in one day - no worries!

Yep Melbourne. 4 seasons in one day and a river that runs upside down.

Zarto: Melbourne prides itself on its ability to produce 4 seasons in one day. The rest of Australia (especially those from Sydney) are jealous.

You should realize that my friends above are making fun of us Victorians. And I am laughing along with them. I will find a way to poke fun back at them.

Yer a natural Zarso. Come on down.

A serious word if I may. You will find that projects have a large environmental/heritage focus here in Aust. Because I am not sure how much emphasis is (or actually needs to be) relevant to what you do or have been taught. It may be worthwhile looking into some environmental courses when you get here. Natural resources environmental effects statements, erosion, salinity, sacred (aboriginal) sites, threatened vegetative constructs, and how your work will interacts with the environment aesthetically.

I was just kidding....

Sure, Sydney is the oldest and most famous city of Au.

I am out of Au now and I am trying to be familiar with Australian behavior.
