I remember just a decade or so ago when the big challenge was keeping these legged types of robots from falling over.

The noise is from a small gasoline engine that powers the robot.
It's amazing how it responds on ice.
It's movements are kind of creepy.

Its movements are way creepy! That thing proves the existence of the uncanny valley if you ask me...Ick. Amazing, though!
