Have you noticed the banks selling off their shares of MO to generate cash?

Strange, when you consider the PMI spinoff is taking place very soon.

Well, maybe it had something to do with the fact that it went ex-dividend on the 17th.

Considering that I am making over 200% on MO, I am not concerned. As far as I am concerned, I have PLENTY of wiggle room!

Not to worry. As of this moment, MO is up 76 cents.

It's easily over 200% and as such is making me very happy these days.

I don't know if you got this, but here is the info on the spinoff. I hope that you have a fast connection, 'cause it is 193 pages long, and downloaded slowly even on my cable connection.

Thanks, I received a booklet ( many pages ) from Altria.

One thing not mentioned was the value, following the spinoff of PMI and MO. Have you heard anything?

I don't know. All I know is that we will get one PMI share for each share of MO that we own. I wonder whether the value at the end of trading on the 28th will be cut in half for each stock. It sounds like it.

Quote:
THE DISTRIBUTION
General
The separation of PMI from Altria will be accomplished through a pro rata distribution by Altria of 100% of our outstanding common stock to Altria stockholders, which we refer to as the Distribution or the Spin-off, on
March 28, 2008, the Distribution Date. As a result of the Distribution, each holder of Altria common stock as of 5:00 p.m. New York City Time on March 19, 2008, the Record Date, will:

• receive one share of our common stock for each share of Altria common stock owned by such holder;
and
• retain such holder's shares in Altria.

I'm guessing that MO will fall to about $30/share with PMI starting all at about $45-50.

When MO spun off KFT, I sold all my KFT and bought MO. Glad I did, now. Laughing

Found something:

Quote:
NEW YORK - Altria shares rose after a UBS analyst said the cigarette maker will post strong profit growth after spinning off its Philip Morris International unit.

The New York-based company will complete the spinoff of PMI on March 28, leaving Altria (nyse: MO - news - people ) as an exclusively U.S.-oriented company. While domestic sales have been growing more slowly than international sales, analyst Nik Modi said Altria will increase its profit growth with cost cuts.

Altria Group Inc. expects its profit to grow between 9 percent and 11 percent this year, but Modi said earnings per share will rise by an average of 13 percent per year over the next three years. He initiated coverage with a "Buy" rating.

He said the price of Altria shares will be adjusted to $21.50 after the spinoff - a discount of almost 40 percent to his price target of $30 per share.

Thanks for the link. I didn't realize that PM WI and MO WI were trading right now.

After the spinoff I think the divs will be $1.85 for PM and about $1.15 for MO.

I'm surprised that MO will fall to $21/share.

Neither did I. But I am sure that there are a lot of "relatives" who knew about the stock trading! Laughing
