I meant to post it here instead of the other thread, that I'm not sure Alex can send a pm, re asking for an invite.

RH, much as I'd like a bench coach, that doesn't seem fair. Maybe you can be a League bench coach...

I agree, osso. With him as your bench coach, you wouldn't stand a chance.

That's a post I'll understand sometime later.

Still batting zero re catching on, but then I haven't read Jespah's Clues yet.

RH is notorious for constantly changing players.

how much time does this take? Or, put another way... what's the minimum time commitment? I may be interested but time is not on my side.

Baseball... that's where five guys run around and dribble, right? Cool

Once your team is set up, you mainly need to assure that you have
the maximum amount of players in each day. So if you have 2
shortstops, and your best guy's team isn't playing that day, but
your backup's team is, you start backup guy and bench best guy that day.

Worst case scenario: if you don't do that, then you'll pick up less points
that day than you would have otherwise.

No, that's Day Care.

Uh, I studied, and am still studying, everyone on my list from yahoo, and there are no catchers. I plan to tweak the order but let yahoo do the draft bit. I can or cannot go find myself some catchers' names and get rid of some other of the 25 names they gave me?????

Do I go through the draft with the given players and then trade before the season starts?

I've read Jespah's notes but am still not clear. Am still working my way through the suggested links.

On the Draft Central page, there are pulldowns to select positions. C for Catcher.

If you are on the "Edit Pre-Draft Player Rankings" screen, be aware that
there is a pull-down menu for "Show:" that has "Top 25", "Top 100", "Top
500", and "All" as options. If you pick an option greater than "Top 25"
(the default), you will see some catchers.

Hope this helps.

Thank you, George. I was under the impression you had to stick with the names they give you, but I guess not. In fact if I went with them, I'd be without catchers...

I actually think you would have catchers in the list. I'm not exactly sure how Yahoo handles it, but I suspect it switches over to the default list once all of the players on your customized list are no longer available.

In other words, if it's "time" in the draft -- in Yahoo's computer's estimation ... perhaps round 3 -- to pick up a catcher, and there isn't one in your customized list, it will pull the highest ranked catcher from it's list.

At least I think that's how it works.

Not exactly, the computer won't let a position blank, but will "wait" for the last rounds to fill the spot. It means that if you don't have catchers on your draft list, you'll get one on the last round... not a great player, I'd suppose.

For what it's worth, this is how I did it this year. (Last year I didn't do
anything before the draft and took what the program gave me.)

1. Go to the "Triple A2K" league page.
2. From there go to "Draft Central".
3. From there go to "Pre-Draft Rankings".
4. Select "Edit My Rankings".
5. Pull down "Top 100"
6. In order of preference, click on player name to select and use
right-arrow to move him from "List of Players" to "My Players".
7. In "My Players", use up-arrow and down-arrow to change ranking if
necessary.

So for example, I moved David Ortiz, Jonathan Papelbon, and Josh
Beckett to higher rankings than Yahoo gave them because of my personal
preferences and citizenship in Red Sox Nation. I moved Albert Pujols to
the "Exclude Players" list because I think his elbow is going to betray him.

At the end, I selected "Save" and "Done" and now I have my own person
rankings list. I'll probably second-guess myself several more time before
the draft. Give me a button and I'll push it.

Using George's directions - and applying jes's information about the position drop-down menu - this is fun!

That's exactly how I do my rankings. Except I exclude different players, of course.
