is it true that they horde rice and stuff so that when the apocalypse happens they will be saviors? my friend told me this i dont know if he was beingprejudiced or makin fun or what. but i dont really know anything about them.
I've known a few Mormon's over the years and never heard of anything like this or seen any evidence of it. Sounds like some sort fo urban legend.
It's apparently not required, but strongly suggested, that they keep a year's suply of food on hand for every member of the family. It's not for the Apocalypse, and it's not to be a "savior". It's to be prepared if hard knocks happen, if a job tanks, if a depression hits. Considering the history of the church, it's probably a good idea. Considering also that when Katrina hit Louisiana that it was the Mormons who loaded their stored food into their 18-wheelers and had them on the road to New Orleans within a day--far quicker than our idiot boy president and his failed promises, I give them credit for the idea.
I was at a house belonging to some Mormons one time and if memory serves me there was a bag of rice in the corner.
I've pretty much heard what username has.
I learned this from a Mormon friend...
It's suggested a Mormon family put aside (not horde) 7 years (or has much as you can) food supplies for the time of tribulation.
They live here in Austin, but have their food stored in San Antonio. I believe it's held at a place managed by Mormons. Each family has their own storage area.
They go down there periodically to rotate the supplies.
Aside...I was watching a documentary about people who lost their homes during hurricaine Katrina. This one man was saying before anyone else showed up, the Mormons were already there to help.
While the storm was still raging, a group from Utah were on their way with trucks filled with needed supplies.
So, it's not about hoarding, it's about having food stuffs available when there are hard times.
