This is a substitution cipher in which one letter stands for another throughout. For example, all the X's might stand for Z's. Your task is to decipher the following:

It wasn't difficult. I assumed the first word was 'the' and then I thought R is probably S (to create THIS and provide the ST for student). From there, it was straightforward. I have no clue what the hint is supposed to be.

With the idea of speeding up the setting of type, the old Linotype keyboards had their letters arranged in decreasing order of the frequency with which they appear in the language, making the two "home" columns ETAOIN SHRDLU.
